my character's father was beaten to within an inch of his life by a padjal for cutting down a tree he wasn't supposed to in the shroud.

I really don't see a padjal beating up anyone tbh, let alone a fully grown man, due to their personality and the fact that they are forever children.

My character is a conjurer but they're not interested in becoming a white mage because of something that happened in their childhood. Is it okay if I just play as my class instead? I'll miss out on a few abilities but I should be able to heal stuff, right?

The ARR site says that classes are for people who want more flexibility in their playstyle. So they should be a valid option too? Instead of getting the job crystal.

I think the idea of classes being versatile and useful died with ARR. It's pretty much a necessity to have a job for content. I have a friend who used to play MRD as a DPS in her static and apparently it kicked ass when done right, but such feats are no longer possible.


If you're IC, go nuts with being a conjurer, but generally for content you're OOC, so it is not an immersion killer to play something else, because you're playing the game and not RPing (talking as an RPer).

If you're doing an IC dungeon with a group of other RPers, make sure you're in a position able to make it through alive, else no harm in pretending you're still a conjurer as a Whm. I have DRK on one of my characters, but I don't RP it as a DRK, but I want to make use of a great sword.
