Is it okay for me to not get my job crystal for rp reasons?

My character is a conjurer but they're not interested in becoming a white mage because of something that happened in their childhood. Is it okay if I just play as my class instead? I'll miss out on a few abilities but I should be able to heal stuff, right?

The ARR site says that classes are for people who want more flexibility in their playstyle. So they should be a valid option too? Instead of getting the job crystal.

I think with ShB release you do not gain anymore new skill or trait post 30 with class.

Certainly it will be fine if you avoid any combat content....

In an RP environment, sure. Fill your boots. If you’re in my group for any vaguely serious content, you’re getting removed though. RP stops where the endgame content begins imo. To try and do otherwise is just disrespectful and inconsiderate to the rest of your group.

As long as you never play any content with other people then it's fine. But if you ever do a dungeon or trial, you will be (rightly so) kicked for not having your job stone.

Get it for any content so that way you won’t get blasted about still being a conjurer past 30. Take off the crystal for when you want to Rp outside of content with ppl.

Classes are suited to those who desire versatility, as they allow the use of actions that belong to other disciplines. In contrast, jobs grant access to exclusive actions and are ideal for situations that demand well-defined roles. Which fighting style you adopt is entirely up to you.

I'm not sure if you're asking this seriously as your profile shows you having several jobs at 70 which means by now you should understand the difference between using a class and a job.

But, in case you are, you would be missing a great number of your abilities (check the official job guide and see which of the abilities have the White Mage icon and which the Conjurer icon), traits and stats, significantly hindering any group that would end up playing with you. So no it's definitely not something you should do in a group setting.


To be honest, they should just drop the classes entirely by now since there isn't any actual use for them at any point, really.

The entire point of RP is pretend, in the first place. Pretend you don't have your job stone and are just a conjurer. Y'shtola can do a lot of crazy stuff as just a conjurer, so it won't be much suspension of disbelief if you're actually an RPer and not just a troll making a bait thread.

well I just recently started leveling conjurer, just hit 24 last night, so I'll be getting my job stone soon... but I think for lore reasons I'm just gonna skip it. Conjurers can heal just fine as is from what I've noticed. I haven't had any problems with it.
