Agreed with everyone else please go away this thread fails so hardIt might sound kind of mean for the people still playing that want it back up, but its not helping SE, especially with whats going on right now. They have to shut off AC and things just to keep the servers going, and FF14 is NOT bringing in any rev. like FFXI is/will (yes we get a free month) but XI players have been making them the money they need and pretty much funding 14 at this point.
Id much rather see them shut down a games servers that is only sucking away not only money, but energy that needs to be rationed at this point. Again its not to be mean, but there is little point when it makes them no cash, takes up electricity and so few people are playing right now.
Let them keep them down so and have them spend time working on updates, so you have something to come back to that new. SE just keep 14 off until things settle down. Everyone is in much more need of actual money (which everyone lost much of) and electricity that could be used elsewhere.
I haven't read much of any of this entire thread but I'm just going to assume that the OP was discussing a watermelon shortage, I had thought maybe I'd assume he was talking about zebra anatomy but I changed my mind.
I agree completely OP something needs to be done about the devastating lack of watermelons in the world. The other day I went to the store and while they had a few available, it was only a few, and not plenty. I was shocked and also appalled at the lack of variety to choose from. SE really needs to do something about this situation soon because another day of slim pickings for watermelons will surely bring about the end of days.
And another thing... What is anyone doing to prepare for the zombie apocalypse? I haven't seen the OP or anyone else in this thread give that some serious consideration. SE hasn't even addressed that issue either even though some people said they were grown ups and could make their own decisions. Well not addressing the zombie apocalypse issue OR the watermelon shortage of 2011 is not at all prudent... only a fool would ignore those things. If not a fool then perhaps a child...
That brings me to my next point, is SE being run by actual children pretending to be adults by standing on each others' shoulders in trench coats? If so, how is this affecting the frequency of game patches and will it negatively impact the future of the game!? I'm concerned.
/end serious discussion
Look at it this way.
Every person who logs on to XIV or XI is putting an amount of additional load on the servers, which means they will require that much more electricity to run. By turning the servers on SE is giving us, the players worldwide, the ability to do our part to conserve electricity in Japan by not logging on!
There you go, bleeding hearts! Now you can tell everyone who logs onto the game on Friday that they're insensitive, horrible people!
Come to think of it. The server for this forum is over in Japan! Since you're posting here, you're forcing the server to use more electricity to send your QQing all over the world! You horrible people! The ENTIRE country, and not just one small part of it, was DESTROYED FOREVER by an earthquake and all you're doing is wasting their electricity to call people out for wasting electricity! SHAME ON YOU ALL.

BelgianRofl is wonderful, and don't you ever forget it!
Why not keep it down? Do you have any idea how a business work? They can't afford to keep the servers down. No matter the crisis a business needs to keep moving on if they want to survive. SE didn't loose a lot of money here, their HQ is in Tokyo which sustained minimal damage from the earthquake.exactly, its just a beta, so why not keep it down, save money and energy and come back with more of the crucial updates the game needs? betas go down all the time do they not? WHen they need power over there as bad as it seems, this would be the time to do it.
and i own the game, CE actually, biggest dissapointment in ages, its a running joke in FFXI.
It's not about being nice and friendly, it's all about business. If you can't supply your customers with a product, they will go elsewhere and this is what will hurt them, not shutting down the AC or lightning.
Trust me, I have a plan, I'm just not sharing it with everyone. And another thing... What is anyone doing to prepare for the zombie apocalypse? The simple fact that the OP is dodging having to provide proof to back up his claims is proof enough for me that they are wrong. They have yet to prove that turning off the FFXIV servers would have a big impact on the energy consumption, they have yet to prove that FFXIV is in fact a "Dying" game. Sure it is in decline, but it isn't going to die out. They have also failed to prove that it would be more beneficial to turn off the FFXIV servers as opposed to the FFXI servers. The fact that both games will be free for the next month, and that FFXIV is a new and upcoming title, and Enix's focus right now, only further support that it should be FFXI that goes down. They have also yet to prove that their plan to fix the Watermelon shortage is foolproof.
