They can easily make a glamour item that changes certain items into an “image” item. Or a level one item, that way they don’t have to turn the off switch for everything. It’ll just change certain items entirely.

Archeage actually does this and it works just fine.

As much as I love Archeage, I've never cared for their glamour system. It's better now that you can actually retrieve an already-applied image from gear while not losing the gear itself, but it's still fairly meh. It's rather clunky compared to other systems that are out there.

While not perfect, I actually really like the system they have in XI. You can glamour any piece of gear onto whatever job you like. The only requirement is that you have to be able to equip the glam-item normally (e.g.: to use a level 50 ninja body as glamour, you have to already have your ninja at level 50). It's also incredibly quick and easy and doesn't require any prisms or anything else.

The downside of their system is that you still have to keep the physical item. It also uses a system more like the glamour plates as well. You basically create an outfit - then can apply it to whatever you like. You can save up to 100 outfits, so they're doing better than XIV in that regard, but I'd prefer the system to let you actually re-skin individual items. vs. using the plate system.
