PETITION: Regarding FINAL FANTASY XIV Steam Version (Mar. 8)

All this change will do is make sure that steam can accurately count the time spent in the game.

Unless they start linking the Steam username to our actual XIV service account it's not going to make any difference though. All SE has said is that you'll need to launch the game via Steam.

The RMT people would just need to have one Steam account where they don't refund the game and launch it from that one account. Then the game accounts they're buying on Steam/refunding they can keep on doing that as those Steam accounts won't have any playtime still.

So if that is the reason then all of this is for nothing as it won't impact on the actual RMT, only on actual players.

And if they do want to link Steam account -> XIV Service account it's going to cause a lot of problems for people who were gifted codes for the game by friends because the game won't even be in their Steam account and if they buy it themselves it won't be the code they actually used (as in friends gave them a code to redeem instead of purchase as a gift).

This whole situation has me annoyed. I thought when they decided to push back this change, it'd come with some reconsideration and eventually deciding against it.

DRM in a nutshell. The people it's meant to impede will just find ways around it, sometimes before the product is even commercially available, while paying customers suffer.
