I think those are all valid points.
For me the worst addition is probably the way quests were implemented. Because they seem to be just another way to do leves it leaves little hope for future questlines and cutscenes. Now players view them just as an optional way to grind.

In previous FF games especially XI the unfolding story was more of a reward than a piece of gil or xp can ever hope to be.

I don't remember the story of even one single npc quest or leve in XIV and I hope the inclusion of gear rewards won't blind people from seeing how badly these story bits are written.

Most players just skip over the blocks of useless text because the designers don't trust us to remember even the most simple of instructions. And why would we as it all comes down to following red dot on the map.

Admittedly most of the side-quests are filler but there are some that have interesting bits of info here and there, like a Roegadyn needing items to trade on another land mass that was recently discovered. One in the first batch or two of side-quests to come out actually hinted at the whole Dalamud thing waaaay before the GC quests even came in. Then we've got the class quests which give interesting insight into the guilds and the way Eorzea works, much more interesting than most games IMO. After that we've got the GC quests which are currently mostly 7th Umbral Era related which have been fantastic so far, especially the newest ones. And last but not least of course we've got the main quests which are quite interesting though they left us at a cliffhanger with a lot of unfinished business.

All in all I think a vast majority of the quests are done quite well and are fairly interesting. The side-quests are the least important of them but they're still good I'd say.
