it's awkward because i play tank alot lately i have NOT seen the need or use to burn my cooldowns in a group so far, probably because the healers did a vry good job at keeping me up.
and im guessing you're a dps from the way you talk..so if the healer does his job.... the tank does his job and the 1st dps does his job and you dont ...whos making the whole group waste its time? the tank not using his CD because he has confidence in his group? or you thats not doing your job?

The tank that doesnt use CDs is the tank that makes the healers job harder than it needs to be. Healers only keep you up because it's thier job and they really dont feel like blowing all thier CDs to keep the rest of the party alive while you eat floor panels. Yeah I'd keep you up thats why I heal but you sure a hell wouldn't get a commendation from me nor have me wanting to ever group up in the future even if I wasnt healing simply because I know you'd be a burden to whoever the healer was that was also in the group.

Thank you for your confidence. But I'd rather you use cooldowns. It doesn't hurt YOUR dps to use them, but it sure as hell hurts mine because I have to spend more combat cycles keeping you from eating the dirt. Less time I have to heal, the more DPS I can do. The more DPS I can do, the faster we'll get this run done.

The better you are at playing the class in generel, the easier every kind of content will be.
Even if the boss has some nasty surprises, by being really comfortable with your toolkit you can react accorindgly out of reflex and not by consciously having to think about it. So, that's the first thing I'd work on. You can practise that in dungeons you have already healed/ tanked.
If you don't have to think about which skill to use when you can fully focus on the mechanics and avoiding gigantic telegraphs etc. shouldn't be a problem.
As for the more unusual mechanics and surprises: YT guides or even text guides greatly help with this but some things need practise. If you say that it's your first time or even that you've been here before but didn't quite got the hang out dealing with the mechanics, most players are incredibly patient and helpful.
It's the wilfully ignorant players and those who neglect to admit that they're new to this duty o0r still struggle with it that get on people's nerves.

True for practice. The problem wasn't first time, (although it was first time there as heal) I main dps and I've ran that dungeon twice. The first boss should be fairly straightforward, proximity slam aoe in the centre, followed by a donut aoe with smaller aoe circles in the safe spot. I probably paused a moment to consider heals after the slam, forgot the donut aoe came after, ran in in time but got clipped by an aoe rock fall circle. I have fairly bad anxiety where my expectations for myself can be rather high, but on the other-hand I'm not a new player, I have practiced in other instances and feel bad failing to simple mechanics. Maybe over time seeing mechanics and watching your parties health becomes second nature, but I feel unsure if other players should be a learning ground when wall to wall smooth runs are generally expected and normal.

I'll give more trusts a go and see if it picks up over time.

a really stupid dark knight just a few minutes ago, he wants titania ex MT, i say ok, but you will need a 4th marked for tether since i am warrior and holmgang is only 6 seconds.

him: you can take 3

me: no i cant. how do i take a third hit if they are every 6 seconds and holmgang is 6 seconds? *starts countdown before i finish* *fight starts*

then i proceed to die both tethers and he blacklists and kicks me from the party. i think so anyway since i couldnt join when they had the empty spot, i refreshed list and tried to join multiple times wanting to ask why he is stupid.

A story for the day, I queue for Alliance Roulette on my RDM and get World of Darkness. The Alliance Wipes twice on Angra Minyu and the two healers in the party both drop out, so I as a WHM main drop out and swap over to WHM because of the current healer situation and how I knew it would be a long time before someone else joined... half way through Angra Minyu take 3 our second healer shows up, also WHM. We proceed onwards to clear 5-headed Dragon and Cerberus without Issue and only have 1 wipe on Cloud of Darkness... have to do a new Alliance Roulette to get the rewards but oh well.

I did a bad. We start out, I ask if they want to do big or small pulls. They say big. We have one player doing it for the first time. I wait for them to watch the movie. We start...

Instant wipe...

I blink... "/p What happened?"

Nobody knows... The enemies just lost aggro...

Then I saw it...

It was me...

I forgot to put Tank stance on.

I apologized profusely, turned it on, and we finished it without problem.

Tank stance is as forgettable now as Protect was in SB. I wish they had more elegant solutions for these things, but that's not really their modus operandi. Instead, we get the game design equivalent of bashing two rocks together.

Edit: The above is a little mean to SE. I'm upset over some changes in ShB. I've shelved all three of my main classes.

The only class I consider shelved for me is Astrologian. its such a boring gimped class right now its not worth the pain in the ass leveling it until last. and it'll likely be one of my trust leveling classes.

classes I originally shelved for being too clunky (monk dragoon and machinist) I finally like playing as.

in fact the only thing tank wise I really do not care much for is the removal of Awareness. but it became rather redundant to have as a skill so...

This past month of ShB has made me want to whack myself with a hammer. Because I had capped tanks for so long and rarely did any other roulette other than 70 and expert in SB, I was not used to having to re-activate my tank stance every time I stepped into any roulette. Took me at least two weeks to finally get back into the habit of checking if I had the stance on before I went mass pulling.

So don't feel bad. At least you owned up and more importantly, turned it on afterwards. I don't know how many pages of this thread you've read but there have been many with tanks never turning on their stance, even though they've been begged to.

I'm actually getting somewhat tired of tanks who pull big but don't actually get aggro. I'm not shaming this tank or anything since they apologized (but this wasn't a one time thing just with them, other tanks do it too) but would it kill tanks to actually aoe? The first two packs after the second boss of the lv 79 dungeon (9 enemies) and as a Dancer I had aggro on no less than FOUR of them.

Naturally we wipe.

And this is with tanks who have their tank stance on.
