That's literally all we're necessarily talking about here, but as an option.

You are NOT losing a combo.
    You are NOT losing complexity.
    You are NOT losing identity.
    You are NOT losing distinction.
    You are NOT losing options.
    You are merely gaining one.
You are right, and in fact, is the same logic behind why continuation is just one button instead of three, or why ninjutsu change instead of being different buttons or even why Iaijutsu also change based on the number of whatever that samurai resource is called.

Still, I don't think there is a need to do that change now but in a future expansion is the perfect candidate to free two slots instead of removing other skills.

Monk might be a bad example as while you picked two skills which always been that way, they have made it boring by taking away alot of it's OGCDs which is pretty much what you'll be doing on a lesser scale if you take Continu* away from being it's own button. I think it's fine and works like any other dps does I simply don't see the need to change the Ogcd combo honestly.

I would like to see them just change the buttons into the new skills. I have the combo on Shift 1,2,3. Be a lot simpler to hit Shift 1,1,2,2,3,3 as opposed to my now Shift 1,4,2,4,3,4

Except consolidated keys did not take away Steel Peak or Howling Fist; they had absolutely zero impact on that decision. They were taken away because Monk's base potencies were increased and FoF's damage aura doubled.

To be clear, consolidated keys did not deny you potential housing slots, discriminate against casual players, or start WW2, either.

Having, say, Gnashing Fang turn into Jugular Rip, Savage Claw turn into Abdomen Tear, and Wicked Talon turn into Eye Gouge has absolutely zero impact on a job's damage or, therefore, the surrounding toolkit. Neither would turning Gnashing Fang into Savage Claw into Wicked Talon, with Continuation being every other button (A B A B A B), or even putting all 6 skills on one key, have any impact on the number of oGCDs you press or the strength of any given skill. Consolidating a button =/= removing a skill.

And for the last time, I don't personally need this consolidation, but as it is a combo line that literally cannot be messed up save by somehow forgetting to hit Consolidation between strikes (as you cannot hit Savage Fang without Gnashing Fang, or Gnashing Fang a second time, etc.) I see no reason to deny that greater button efficiency.

Less about being elitist and more about lacking context. Most people who macro abilities together out of convenience aren't the people doing content where that would hurt them. There is no need to bother people with that since if they do get into content it matters someone else will help them out. You are basically just saying this to feel good about yourself.

While I agree with this comment, I also don't want to see changes to the design of Gunbreaker and actually like that it has so much 'button spam'.

That said... I think there are easily characters in OVerwatch that have maybe 3 or 4 'buttons' total that are more complex than ANYTHING this game has to offer... because the combat engine it hitscan action based.

And since this game is tab-target 'mostly stand there' based... complexity generally is stuck coming from rotation-confusion...

In the end it has less to do with us being tab-target as our being unable to be anything but tab-target. Our poll rate isn't enough to allow for "action"-like play; we can't readily handle constant interception or prioritization during soft-targeting (whereby you hit the selected target if range, or any other applicable target in your facing direction if not); we can't handle auto-optimization for AoEs (where firing off an AoE at a group of enemies will center on/from the enemy from which the most enemies can be hit); we can't handle animation-matched AoEs (whereby if it looks like an AoE, it's an AoE... to the degree it looks like an AoE); etc., etc. Heck, at present we run out of circles and into explosions for greatest safety...

And agreed, I like GNB's button spam, though it's not quite why I stay awake on it and PLD and fall asleep on WAR and especially DRK atm. (This is my Healer/DEX alt. My other is my Tank/STR alt. Not sure which I'll put casters on yet.)

This is how we get people at lv80 making rookie mistakes. Because they don't even know to ask if ffxiv macros hamper combat; afaik they don't hamper combat in other games.

Not knowing to ask and people around them carrying the attitude of "someone else will tell them / not my problem" is a bad combination. But I'm just saying this to feel better about myself. It's really not my problem, you do you.
