I avoid this by not watching streamers play games and instead play them myself.
Sincere question, what’s the draw? Beyond watching a guide video for something you haven’t done before or didn’t understand.

It's like introducing a friend to something you like. You've already seen and played it, but you want to see how much they enjoy what you enjoy.
I agree, I don't "watch" twitch much at all but I thought I'd just randomly help a new player streaming the game since I just so happen to see she was in the Vault
What's the draw in watching basketball on TV when you could be playing it yourself?
What's the draw watching a cooking show when you could go make dinner?
What's the draw watching stand-up comedy when you could go do that?
Entertainment. That's the draw. It's the same reason we watch anyone else do anything that isn't critical to our survival. Watching people livestream games can be entertaining. Sometimes the streamer themselves is engaging and interesting, and sometimes the game is the draw. Sometimes it's a total train wreck. Different people watch for different reasons but it all boils down to: it's entertaining.
And that's all well and good! However, I personally still don't really understand the appeal. A video game is a bit more accessible than, say, pro basketball, so I would think that people would prefer to play games themselves. But it's as someone said earlier in this thread, different people like different things. While the appeal eludes me, I respect that. What's the draw in watching basketball on TV when you could be playing it yourself?

I really don't know what twitch is other than the basic stuff but as to the reason people watch other gamers. It reminds me of when I was much younger and games were only in arcades. Folks would gather around to watch really good players playing defender or space invaders and of course pinball. It was entertainment or they learned new things. No other real reason. I suppose it's the same reasons. And that's all well and good! However, I personally still don't really understand the appeal. In the same example there would always inevitably be that one dude who would backseat direct. Even more annoying then when they literately were breathing down your neck!
Depends on what I'm in the mood for. Some streamers it's to learn tactics I'm not aware of in context to what just happened on the screen (as many of the guys I watch love to answer questions). For other streamers I just enjoy their personality, banter, their roleplay, or even the community they foster in chat.
Streaming is more than just watching the game, it's about engaging with the streamer and chat as events are happening on screen. It can be thought of as being akin to sitting on your couch with friends while one of you is playing a game.
I watch streamers because I like their commentary while playing. Sometimes it’s fun to see someone else’s reactions to gaming content that I enjoy myself. Sometimes it’s also to see a guide or something along those lines. It’s entertainment. Just like watching anything else.
