It's obviously not worth the effort of them putting any detailed thought into it so I'll create my own.
It is a little bit disappointing, but I'm happy with what I've come up with based off it.

Same. Sonja Forsberg is a good name that fits nicely I think. I'll have to tweak her background a bit, but that's not a big deal.

I went with Svana Fyth, though most people will probably know her as Swan or Swan Dancer.

I think that another reason for the open naming conventions is to not make people feel forced to change the names that they've been using for 4-6 years (unlike the 2 years when the Au Ra released) and lose their "identity", so to speak.

However, it's true that the lore included is a little bit vague and underwhelming when compared with what we know about the other races.

It doesn't help that Yoshi-P said we'd visit a Viera village to learn about the Viera, and what we apparently actually got was just the Viis village. Admittedly, I love the Viis village, but it's not Viera. It's Viis. That left me feeling lied to.

In fairness, based on what we know about Viera, the two world cultures didn't actually diverge all THAT much. We know from Fran that her people protect the monastery in much the same way the Viis protect the Ronka temple. Granted, the details of that aren't known, but still. We also know that the Viera and Viis are equally strict about their sisters who leave, and the men of both cultures are Watchers who protect not just the forest but the women. And are treated with incredible awe if that one sidequest in Rak'tika is any indication.

The only divergence I've seen so far really is that the Viis are far more open to the idea of poking their noses out of their forest and reconnecting to their 'lost' sisters once we arrive and begin opening things up. The Viera so far aren't. But that my also be a plot point sometime later.

This has been incredibly disappointing overall. On top of this not being available before release as it should have been, they also mislead us with an old norse name and now they're even changing Hrothgar lore (and it makes no sense that the Lost have different fur colors available). Oh well, not changing my name at this point.

I actually quite like the Viera lore, personally, though I picked a Vieran name for my character (well before the actual conventions were released, yay guessing!) and I'm definitely sticking with it. To my character's mind, she didn't leave the Viera, the Viera left her - they refused to understand that their entire culture's way of life was under threat by these metal men in their metal armor with weapons that could blast away their spears and rapiers without a single thought. When she left, she left with the full intent to return, whether the Viera of Arda wished her to or not. So she left as Sjel Arda, of the Viera who walk the highest peaks of Skatay, and so she shall remain.

She did, finally, after 60 years of exile, decide to dye her auspicious white hair blue, though. You can't live amongst these flamboyant Eorzeans for nearly five decades without picking up some of their flair for the dramatic. She still scoffs when she sees one of her sisters named Pancake Syrup, but she understands. Vieran culture does have a tendency to stifle the mind and spirit of those who do not follow it to the letter.

There are actual animals that have their scale or fur color change depending on mood/location/weather. With how closely the Hrothgar seem to be attached to their queens, to the point that their surnames are defined by who their queen is/was, I could see the same applying to the Lost.

Keeping my name. I can make up an IC reason as to why the surname is off. Paying to be 100% Lore accurate is not worth it.
