But if they level up partway through a dungeon, it'll be from the mob EXP, not from the dungeon.
Fair enough they probably shouldn't have done a leveling roulette if they were that close to reaching level 80, but if they'd completed the run, that would have been a waste of all of that completion EXP.

Besides, if they really wanted to leave, they could play really poorly, wipe the party, and vote abandon.


The main thing though, people can leave for all sorts of reasons, and you can only assume that reaching level 80 was their only reason.

Nope, the punishment is the penalty you receive if you leave. Doesn't need to go any further than that.

No, this is a stupid idea and you should feel bad for suggesting it. People leaving because they leveled to max level are really rare and they get a 30 minute timeout as is. I've encountered people who did this maybe 5 times max over the course of 6 year and I play a lot. You can instead make connections in game by joining a FC, linkshells, and/or NN and callout to see if anyone is willing to join. Usually take less than a minute to get a replacement unless you are playing during off hours then it takes 2 minutes.

Well, anecdotes will be anecdotes, but I don’t think that this is a common enough problem to try and enforce penalties for it. I’ve played this game for 3.5 years now, and can count on one hand the instances where someone hit the current level cap and then bailed on the dungeon. So I don’t personally consider this an issue that warrants immediate addressing or that needs penalties implemented for it.

I've NEVER seen anyone bail just after leveling. My two guesses on this one would be:

1) Something actually came up and they had to leave (makes little sense to drop halfway through and not get the additional tomes & gear if everything is OK otherwise). Or..
2) The party/dungeon run itself was just really bad, and the healer was wanting out, but figured they would just stay long enough to get their level.

This is obviously just speculation, and we'll never actually know the reasoning, but I think the 30 minute penalty is just fine. The suggestion that we should also lose all XP/gear/tomes is incredibly extreme and would only hurt the game.

Though I have to say, even if it happened to every group that runs Mt Gulg for example. Like EVERY group. Someone leaves because they leveled. Is it still a problem? I've never had issues replacing tanks or healers even lat at night myself.

I don't understand this cultural mentality of forcing people to group with people. Like the OP and others in this thread are offended that someone had the audacity to withdraw their consent to group with them. I'm going to be honest.. this goes well into creep territory. Don't be creepers. If someone doesn't want to be in the group anymore don't hold it against them. Its not that serious.

I have to disagree with that kind of punishment. Sure, we get some players who exploit it but, this change would hurt the many who leave for valid reasons. Some I can think of are personal life came up that needs their immediate attention, work called and needs them to come in outside their shift, the party is absolutely volatile and miserable to play with. When the reason is valid, it's nice to leave knowing it wasn't a complete waste of time.

Better solution. Make healing fun again (for non-WHM) and maybe it'll be easier to find a healer to replace them. :P
