The combat was slower but more strategic. It felt like a game of chess on a live battle field.
I would really like to see this form of combat return. It reminded me of Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door.

No you don't. You just think you do. Trust me.
I hate it when people say this, telling other people that they're wrong about how they feel.
If OP feels that way, it's fine. I didn't play enough of 1.0 to really get a grasp of its battling style. I just remember being severely disappointing because I was an MMO newb and expected the next FF solo game. The only thing I remember about 1.0 is that the bodieswere better in that they actually had rumps and curves, etc (i.e. they kind of looked more like normal humans than sticky anime characters). The textures reminded me of older games, but I kind of liked that (I like older game graphics, ahhh). Weird. Wish I remember what the battling was like. I wanna say I thought it was boring but a part of me just thinks I thought that because I wasn't accustomed to it.
I suspect that XIV's battling system was never "great." It was starting to get more challenging by SB and weirdly enough that was a confidence boost for me. xD Like, I never imagined I could pull off Shinryu's mechs and yet I was able to.
The classes then could still be a little more strategic than they were. The classes now could use being a whole lot more strategic. They're too boring. It's probably an issue that always "plagued" XIV in some way, but honestly? I think this is the worst it's ever been from what I remember from 2.0 onwards.

I won't be coming back to FFXIV's forums. The forum vibe is way too venomous and brings out the worst in me. I don't like who I am on the forums, so it's best to distance myself.
No, you do not miss 1.0. You might miss FFXI's gameplay style, I do too, but FFXIV 1.0 was not that.
You never know because the same director was working on it and lets say that it worked out you'd never know what it would have turned into today if it had succeeded.
I miss 1.0 because of the music battle music sounded like battle music, large area's, boat rides, all the cool stuff and a different feel to the world with battleships in the sky.
it is what it is and never came to and we got FFXIV reborn into something else I cannot argue but I do miss some stuff from 1.0.
This is pretty much all I miss now. This and actually riding elevators. I get that it's faster now, but I miss just going to get on the ferry and having a little sail sometimes. I really thought and hoped the "skipper" thing was just temporary, or would be made optional.![]()
God please help us
sinful children of Ivalice.
Yeah the thunderstorms were nice. This is pretty much all I miss now. This and actually riding elevators. i miss the graphic fidelity of 1.0
Ehhhh. I don't think we really need fully meshed/textured light bulbs inside of fully meshed/textured glass planes inside of fully meshed lanterns. I do miss having nice looking fingers but some of the graphical fidelity was on the 'why' level.
it's 2019, i don't see why not. i can understand because the ps4 and likely ps5 wouldn't be able to hand it either. i shudder to think of actually playing xiv on console
