I feel bad, lately it seems you guys must be taking a beating in groups. That's sad.

The point of this post is to let all you full time heals know some of us love you guys and notice the hard work you do, so relax and take my complements!
    "After helping with heals".

    Great joke thread!

I think several healers think "are you serious?" in those moments. I can only speak for myself and a couple of friends who play healer aswell, but it might be similiar for others.
We often view our performance really critically. As in, we notice when we missed a GCDs for dpsing, when we timed a cd poorly or got hit by something that doesn't even hurt that much though we could've avoided it without even sacrificing dpsing/ healing or when we dispelled an actually detriminal debuff several seconds late (like dmg down stuff etc).
So when someone compliments me after a run and I have noticed several fails on my part, I always feel like this just HAS to be sarcasm.
And even when dmg really gets out of hand it sorta stings when a RDM helps healing. Because I always feel like this simply a stress test I could and by all means, SHOULD pass by myself and if I don't and the RDM actually has to save the day I feel like I failed.
In those instances I usually requeue after we finished the duty and see that I get it right this time.
I remember doing Titan hard 3 times in a row because I died from the last bomb the first two times. Granted, Landslide and Weight was a mess and the tank frequently turned the boss, so avoiding all dmg was difficult but since not everyone else died aswell it meant I simply messed up and wanted to do better. No matter how well I otherwise performed, if someone had commended my performance, I would've thought it's sarcasm because of that mishap.

No problem! Just doing my job! I know others have said context matters but I generally just take things at surface value and say "ty" or something similar and keep it moving.

When I put the healer through their paces with big pulls, and/or something goes wrong and the healer saves the day, I will always take a moment to compliment and praise the healer. I know how stressful healing can be sometimes, and they certainly aren't thanked enough.

Honestly, if you really want to say thanks, just give the healer your comms. If I did do something that I know was beyond the bounds of my role or what was expected and it saved the run or just helped someone, I check my comms after to see if it was appreciated. If I got a lot of them, I know they thought my help was worthwhile.

I personally prefer constructive criticism to praise, as a lot of the time it comes off sounding disingenuous. More typically, I prefer the "Hey there!" at the beginning and "TYFP" at the end of a run. Silence (or banter unrelated to the actual run) means that I'm doing my job correctly.

I remember a similar experience in one of the leveling dungeons as a redmage. I think it was Don Mheg. We had a super messy pull and healer struggled with healing everyone. So i helped out with vercures and quick rezzed the heal when they died. We didnt wipe as a result. There was no talking though. Triple commendation at the end as a dps. Guess i did something right there..

But back to topic as i main whm. I agree on comments like "i got your back" etc. being taken as an offense. Maybe i am a bit too naive here, but isn't this a team game where everyone should pull all of their tools in certain situations? Please keep the "no shit sherlock" and thats obvious comments at bay. I know that much.. ^^"

    Have a nice saturday everyone

I don't know what's so funny here. Sure, a RDM can't really do much to mop up AoE/group damage from stuff like 8-man trials/raids, but this topic is talking about typical 4-man dungeon situations where it's mainly only the tank that needs to be looked after. They sure can throw out a meaningful ST heal in a pinch, and I've done this before myself.

It's better than just continuing to attack, oblivious to the situation, and letting the tank die to a pile of trash with the rest of the party soon following suit. I'm not sure why you would encourage more of this inattentive behavior (by insinuating their heals wouldn't matter anyway) among non-healer classes that possess healing tools that can potentially salvage a bad situation.

Settle down. The healer(s) probably too offense because the RDM, or whomever complimented them was perceived as being passive-aggressive.

By the way, an RDM should never have to vercure to save the party. It is a DPS loss. The healer/tank should be able to manage it on their own, especially in a dungeon.

By the way, what "should" happen isn't always what actually happens.

It's a bit touchy with healers right now, given how much SE has shat on us this expansion. There's been some harassment in raids, too, with DPS asking "uh, WHY IS OUR HEALER DPSING? SRRY, HEALERS SHOULD NOT DPS. STOP DPSING. KTHXBYE" etc. Though, I've never gotten "odd" comments when I thanked for rezzes or praised for good heals at the end of a raid if it was a really difficult run for heals. It might depend on placement/when you praise.

Although, I recently found out tanks can do some really baller things that I never realised was them doing it. At a boss in a dungeon, we were supposed to wipe, but thanks to the tank, we actually lived and managed to beat the boss. I thought it was the healer for keeping us alive through that supposed-to-wipe mechanic, but they pointed out it was the tank. When it's a team effort, the team should definitely be congratulated like "gg team!" but at the same time, I think certain things - like that ^ - should be praised individually.

    I'm rambling, aahh

I won't be coming back to FFXIV's forums. The forum vibe is way too venomous and brings out the worst in me. I don't like who I am on the forums, so it's best to distance myself.
