When the game's story becomes self-aware:
I think that theyll likely finish the concept stage at about 5.1Yes, I am aware of how Au Ra turned out, but I am not arguing that it is an absolute truth in their designing choice, just that we do have an idea of how SE envisions male Viera, so at least there is a starting point.
Now as for those Au Ra concept arts, you can see that the males do resemble the 2nd and 5th slides, so they approximated that design, even if not exactly. I am not too fond of the faces in the 6th slide, as they're pretty hideous, but it's a damn shame that they didn't go with those two bodies in the middle and right of the top row, or even the body of the 1st slide, plus having them retain some of the unique "mutations" in 2 and 5 whilst going with the handsome face options.
I'd also note that their final implementation of female Viera did not diverge much from the concept art. Granted, said art is close on 6 years old, so if they do add the males there are bound to be modifications; this was more to address the notion that we've never seen how SE might design them.
Are you confident of that? I have seen plenty of commentary adding support to the addition of male Viera based on how the females feel incomplete without them. It's more the fact that SE has already addressed the issue and is considering how to move forward. So there is now a waiting game, no doubt whilst they assess relevant metrics, something I would think would take them up to 5.1, to form an accurate picture.
Seeing as Yoshida already knows in his mind eye what they would look like. Then, maybe, it's a possibility. The fact he knew straight away how they would look like when interviewed was a given. It was discussed beforehand at length - it would have been anyway when they were deciding between Hrothgar/Viera full races.
As for the argument regarding the males using the Elezen body. Very much so. I'd be surprised if male Viera wasn't just a modified m Elezen body. That's if they're even bothering to add the missing genders, mind you. I wouldn't bet my last £1 on it.

I personally owuld bet that theyre amkign them. If not, why would they be so fast to respond as to how male viera looks =?Seeing as Yoshida already knows in his mind eye what they would look like. And thats completely fine, since everyone has their tastes. (And in a way its not like our opinion on it would suddenly change the game and Hrothgar is gone) I just can fully understand why some wished that we would have gotten a whole Viera race, since even though Hrothgar do have special faces, they cant change their mane without giving SE real money, have less manes in general and on top of that the problem that the Viera have too which is the headgear. I really hope that they have a better solution for the missing genders..but at the same time I fear that especially the female Hrothgar will too be restricted..which would be a great shame because even though I really want to play as one for a long time (as in beast race) I will not change to something even more restricted than female Vieras.
Of course I will still support the inclusion of both genders with all my heart because even if I dont plan to play it with these restrictions, others might.
The Au Ra concept artworks still make me feel a bit salty..because if the females would have been these sexy demonic looking women (and not the small waifus) I would have never changed from that. I honestly just choose female Viera because they are still in a way different than normal humans (especially the faces), are tall, sexy and especially not dainty in their emotes...having warrior women that are constantly fighting as such small women, who are also emoting like japanese school girls, was one reason why I never completely liked them. The different clans could have been perfect to make a more beastly Xaela and a more waifu Raen. But seemingly that change is only there for midlanders and highlanders. (The only thing I dislike about my change: My collections of extra horns will now be useless v_v)

My personal take on it would've been to just give the females more of a height range to work with, to allow for the waifus for SE's fantasia income but also allow taller options. I think the Xaela could've benefited from some Voidsent-styled mutations as options. For both I'd have included a muscle tone slider. A highlander/midlander type split, with Raen left as they are (minus the things I mentioned) and Xaela given bulkier physiques, would have worked too, but I guess the design work involved means SE is reluctant to repeat it, even though it makes the subraces more distinctive.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:
Com'on guys... push this into page 860.
You can do it...
"After ten years, finally headed to Sharlayan... absolutely stoked"
Considering how the Au Ra look, I get the feeling the absolute most we'll get in terms of muscle is a twunk body type. It seems to be the limit that a lot people are willing to go to before they begin to look unattractive. The roe/Hrothgar numbers are very telling, there is an interesting correlation between how the less "cute" the guys look, the less popular they become.
Something tells me square has learned their lesson when it came to how people feel about bulky body types. JP audiences just aren't too crazy about them. And coming from an audience that had some who considered male miqo'te to look too masculine and "trying to appeal to westerners"...
this seems like the most realistic thing I could see a pretty boy factory company like Squeenix churning out. They love their bishies.
As far as the whole "Hrothgar should be deleted" thing that happened a few pages back. I for one don't believe the hrothgar should be deleted at all. Sure I may not like them, but there are people who do, and the Hrothgar being included doesn't take anything away from me. even if the bara cats have a niche audience, it's still an audience, and they deserve to have their fun too.
