Hythlodaeus is also able to see Ardbert in an indistinct shape and the color. Which he/she then says that the WoL is the ONLY one that can see and talk to Ardbert. Now my speculation on this is due to Hytholodaeus being said shade and not the real one, they weren't able to see Ardbert fully. It can be still considered a hint as to Hythlodaeus being the WoL's original fully formed soul.

Think about it, we have Y'shtola traveling with us and she can ONLY see Aether, she also sorta knows what Ardbert's aether should look like albeit maybe a bit differently. Second, there is Ryne who can straight up make out the WoL's soul especially when it has cracks in it because of the over abundance of light aether that he has been absorbing. Ryne alsotook over Minfillia's powers as well as basically absorbed Minfillia herself, yet she didnt have a clue as to what the Wol was talking about at the end depending on your choice of answer. (Though both answers give a similar responce... yeah yeah I'm a sucker for cutscenes sue me =P).

Then there are a whole lot of questions on how Hythlodaeus gained his sentience as a shade. Like why did it matter to Emet if Hythlo realized the truth if he was dead. He did want the WoL to realize the truth of the situation. He even wanted to become allies with the WoL.

It also doesnt mean that Hythlodaeus wasn't the 14th member that left the convocation either. I mean he did practically say there was 14 but when zodiark was summoned it was 13... unlike it being rumored by the other npcs.

EDIT 2: also another thing to think of is even the Fuath (which are supposed to be the spirits of the drowned) gave no hint of seeing Ardbert either. Feo Ul and the other pixies didnt see him also.
