To change to Vierra you have to buy Fantasia right. I could not bare to lose my main Lalafell however.

Yes, you have to buy a fantasia if you want to change an existing character. Since you don't want to lose your lalafell you can either buy two fantasias, save your character in the character creation screen, and change yourself into a viera.
If you don't like the race, you have your saved appearance to switch back to with nothing lost.
Your other option is to create an alt.
I think most people are off-put by the battle voices, since it's what we'll be hearing most of the time in game and almost all of them are some sort of grating, annoying shrill or screech that feels like they didn't even try to make them sound good. I know that's why I, and several other people I've spoken to, won't touch Viera at all.
I've found that only certain jobs have super spammy voice soundbites. Mainly ones like BRD, DNC, MCH, and NIN. Possibly others. Ones I've played a lot (tanks, DRG, RDM, etc.) don't make noise very often, weirdly enough.I think most people are off-put by the battle voices, since it's what we'll be hearing most of the time in game and almost all of them are some sort of grating, annoying shrill or screech that feels like they didn't even try to make them sound good. I disagree, I've been seeing tons of Viera everywhere (on Faerie anyway). I think they would have blown up even more if we had access to more headgears, purchased hairstyles and male Viera. I know they are working on adding the purchased hairstyles and more headgear, but I really hope they add male Viera and female Hrothgar down the line.
After a couple of weeks in Faerie, I've seen a lot of Viera, but one of my raid mates changed back to Au Ra because of the lack of hairstyles and helmets. Their height also seems to be a problem for people who want a more moeblob race (I jokingly say as a max height Viera: being tall is not for the weak)
The census got updated to include Viera and Hrothgar. Viera definitely blew up! Below are the numbers for active players per race (of all the servers/datacenters).
Female Races (from most common to most rare)
1. Miqo'te - 133,844
2. Au Ra - 93,965
3. Viera - 81,278
4. Lalafell - 60,563
5. Hyur - 53,110
6. Elezen - 13,002
7. Roegadyn - 7,175
When you add Lalafell, Hyur, Elezen, and Roegadyn, the total is 133,850. That barely passes over Miqo'te alone, which is at 133,844. Catgirls just completely eclipse over the last four races. The only other two that aren't as overshadowed are Au Ra and Viera. Viera didn't surpass Au Ra like I thought it would, but it did surpass four other races and became third most popular. I would definitely consider that as blowing up.
If my math is right, this means that for every female Roegadyn out there, there are 18 catgirls!
Not surprisingly, Hrothgar didn't blow up as much as Viera did.
Male Races (from most common to most rare)
1. Hyur - 81,390
2. Miqo'te - 69,278
3. Lalafell - 50,183
4. Au Ra - 42,685
5. Elezen - 23,439
6. Hrothgar - 23,307
7. Roegadyn - 15,507
I think out of all the races, Roegadyn (both male and female) were hit the hardest with the introduction of Viera and Hrothgar. Roegadyn is the official unicorn race.

Max height bunny girls are the best :3After a couple of weeks in Faerie, I've seen a lot of Viera, but one of my raid mates changed back to Au Ra because of the lack of hairstyles and helmets. I legit have never heard any battle voices. I can't hear mine or anyone else's. I picked voice 5, which I like regardless. I do have my sound set to camera and not character though so that may be why.I think most people are off-put by the battle voices, since it's what we'll be hearing most of the time in game and almost all of them are some sort of grating, annoying shrill or screech that feels like they didn't even try to make them sound good. And their numbers, specially female viera, will go down. Therell likely be even more males than female vieras, mostly cus straight men typically want uguuuu uwwwuuuu desu ka waifus, but most ppl have no issues with strong men. The male hrotgar wasnt even meant to be popular, I think it was jsut to get furries to increase the initial expac sales so SE gives em a bigger budget for next expansionThe census got updated to include Viera and Hrothgar.
