Viera didn't blow up as big as we all thought.

The census got updated to include Viera and Hrothgar. Viera definitely blew up! Below are the numbers for active players per race (of all the servers/datacenters).



Female Races (from most common to most rare)
1. Miqo'te - 133,844
2. Au Ra - 93,965
3. Viera - 81,278
4. Lalafell - 60,563
5. Hyur - 53,110
6. Elezen - 13,002
7. Roegadyn - 7,175

When you add Lalafell, Hyur, Elezen, and Roegadyn, the total is 133,850. That barely passes over Miqo'te alone, which is at 133,844. Catgirls just completely eclipse over the last four races. The only other two that aren't as overshadowed are Au Ra and Viera. Viera didn't surpass Au Ra like I thought it would, but it did surpass four other races and became third most popular. I would definitely consider that as blowing up.

If my math is right, this means that for every female Roegadyn out there, there are 18 catgirls!

Not surprisingly, Hrothgar didn't blow up as much as Viera did.

I think out of all the races, Roegadyn (both male and female) were hit the hardest with the introduction of Viera and Hrothgar. Roegadyn is the official unicorn race.

Amount of female Roe isn't affected that much, in fact. In May 2019 there were 8.011 of them. Amount of males didn't changed much, too: 17.258 in May. Though, July is a bit tricky, because there are a lot of returning players who will drop the game again more or less soon, so the more proper statistic will be available a bit later, maybe in the end of August, after Eden release calm down.

Looking at XIVcensus they are 3rd by popularity now. Decent, considering that they are not exact "cuuuuutie" concept like female Au Ra are (female Miqo'te are more on sexy side, but still cute concept too). And I see at least one Viera almost in every run to dungeon so it can be matter of Server/DC.

That is actually very funny considering before Viera came out I predicted all of this, and was called out for some sort of bias since I was still my Au Ra at the time. The way the cookie crumbles, eh?

I've seen tons. I changed myself because I really like the hairstyles they have and I'm sure more will be added in the future. I used to be an Elezen for hmmm 2 years but I think this is the next best thing for me especially since it is elegant like Elezen, no long neck (I was tired of being called giraffe... seriously) and I feel that it meets my expectations height wise as I was a 50/50 height Elezen before. It's really similar in some ways but very different and I like it. And if I want to change back someday I will but not now.

I have been thinking about making my main a Viera (currently a male Miqo'te). I've always loved the Viera in old FF games.

What's giving me pause is stiff animations. Are they stiff? Do the ears move, like, at all?

That is interesting, because I have yet to see a full bunny group. 3 (including myself) was the most I had, and that was only once. Often enough, I'm the only Viera.

They were affected a lot though. Comparing the May 2019 census to the one now, female Roegadyn went from 8011 to 7175. That's a difference of 836. Looking at raw numbers, 836 seems like a small amount.

But percentage-wise, 836 is a lot for female Roegadyn. Female Roegadyn lost more than 10% of their total population.

Compare this with female Miqo'te, who went from 139,122 to 133,844. That's a difference of 5,278. A lot more catgirls were lost than female Roegadyn. However, percentage-wise, catgirls only lost about 3% of their population.

This is why catgirls feel as common as they have always, but, at least for me, female Roegadyn are noticeably rarer now. Since the beginning of this expansion, I've only seen/encountered three female Roegadyn. One is an fc mate of mine, the other in a roulette duty, and another one in rhalgr's reach. That's it.

The loss of female Roegadyn feels much more palpable than the loss of catgirls.

Male Roegadyn went from 17,258 to 15,507. They too lost more than 10% of their population. Male Miqo'te, however, went from 66,646 to 69,278. Male Miqo'te numbers actually increased.

Don't be fooled by raw numbers.

The numbers will stabilize by August, but I suspect that those statistics will remain fairly proportionate to what we see now.

They're elegant and haughty, but I can see some people seeing them as stiff. The ears do move but very little and it's a slight bounce while running or jumping. Funny enough, shorter ears (like mine, on the lower end of the scale), have a more noticeable bounce than longer ears.
