Btw, NPC healers, both enemies and allies, ALSO attack (see trust system). So why should you be different, eh?

Because when an AI ally fails to heal me and I die, I blame shoddy AI and move on, knowing better than to trust them. But when a White Mage that's so scrapperlocked into holy spam that they forget to HEAL, I can absolutely tell you that you're a failure of a healer.

This is actually not what is said. What *was* said is that healer damage is not included when they calculate DPS requirements to clear a fight.

That seems like quibbling over semantics. Healers have two binary states - DPSing or Healing. Or, I guess, not doing anything but I don't think that's a primary design goal.

If SE has stated that healer DPS isn't taken into account when determining a raid, that would imply that the only measure they balance for is healing --- that's the only other thing a healer can do. Ergo, SE is saying they only design encounters with healers only healing mind. Unless you think they're actually claiming that they design raid encounters with the idea of healers doing nothing most of the time.

Obviously that's not the reality, healing requirements for properly (even only 80% of mechanics properly) executed fights is still ludicrously low. And it doesn't help that the only major source of damage (wisely) adds a stackable debuff, meaning it's designed to not be healed through if you fail enough mechanics. But that's what they're saying :shrug:

It's amazing anyone thinks it's risky or difficult to dps while healing. Just how slow is your reaction time?

Even leveling in Shadowbringers it really wasn't that hard to wall to wall every dungeon while dpsing and healing.

I can't imagine what entitlement someone has to have to think that idling to "Wait for healing" isn't wasting other people's time. If it's so hard to play a healer play another role. Because in this game dps weaving is absolutely how you play a healer.

Of course I don't. I never said I did.

But know that every time people say "A healer that doesn't DPS is a failure" or something along those lines, somewhere a tank is dying because a healer was too insistent on DPS'ing. (Might just be my contrarian, devil's advocate nature)

This also means that somewhere a Tank is dying for not using cds and a dps is dying from standing in aoes. There will always be finger pointing, unfortunately healers get the finger the most because they are the backbone of the party. Yes some healers get tunnel vision and get caught up dpsing. Tanks also get tunnel vision some times and forget to grab adds. Dps get tunnel vision all the time.

After reading 8 pages of more text, all I can say is at this rate, the way yoshi has stated his input, and how healers skills changed, I absolutely will not be surprised when/if they fully remove/lock healers ability to dps in group stuff lol.
Don't get me wrong, I'll dps. I have no problem with that. But it's the cruel and toxic players trying to "force* healers to dps that are gonna bring it down on everyone.

They will never lock healers out of DPSing in group content because they’re smart enough to realize there would be a riot over it.

There is precisely zero chance that will ever happen. If they did, it would be reverted within the first two weeks because queue times for everyone else would become utterly abysmal. Look at the uproar now. Removing the ability to DPS without replacing it with something else to cover downtime would guarantee a mass exodus from the role entirely. This game simply does not deal enough outgoing damage to make "pure healing" fun. And the devs have shown no indication they intend on changing that. Hence why healer DPS is popular. There's literally nothing else for them to do.
