That they might have a small talk about it.. yeah I'm sure they would if the thread gets brought to their attention lol.
That they will actually change it? I wish I could just be like "yep, give it time", which actually seems to work for a lot of things given what I feel about SE/FFXIV. Make a request/hope for something, wait a while- egg turns to gold. Part of what makes FFXIV my favorite mmo even if some other random mmo might do that "one thing" better. That drive to improve, that which made 1.0 turn to 2.0 and so on, also I just really like the FF universe, chocobos, moogles, airships, music, environments, good quality fantasy visuals, job systems, it's great stuff ^-^. Still praying I can encourage / cheer for them to make housing more fluid and less strict (or at least encourage them to do so next time they make an mmo, when they're not working with some of the 1.0 architecture still). An area/theme I've been wanting/asking for a long time I just found out is in the expansion (cant say what as it's a spoiler) but oh wow.. lol /hype, another thing to add to the loose mental list I try to keep (actually a few areas I've hoped for, and seen others hope for, have happened). I should have added Hrothgar to the list of things that appear they listened on, not something I exclusively asked for (some others did too), but also took a few people by surprise (I'm glad it's fairly popular for being a beast race
).
So while in general time seems to do one well, for this particular issue I have to say I'm afraid it has to do with the Cash Shop and even Yoshida has referred to the manager of the Cash Shop with (perhaps jokingly/perhaps not) a mix reverence and fear of power lol.
I think they should sincerely consider it if it wont really budge their bottom line (say only 0.5% people who purchase gendered gear end up purchasing both genders, fraction of a fraction), so then changing it doesn't really make some customers mad (or make some complicated reimbursement plan to fix their anger), and also doesn't lose them much money. If then it could be an easy way to garner good will and smooth systems out which will in turn also encourage use of Fantasia (which might actually earn them more in the end, since people who wouldn't change their gender now may actually consider to do so going from non-paying customer to paying). That's something who ever makes that decision would have to research though :3.
The person in charge of the cash shop, whoever that may be, was obviously hired with at least one explicit objective of making SE money (probably a second being not to enrage the fans/get in trouble with governments), and while I don't think we should always make that easy I can imagine in their position making SE more money means job stability not just for themselves but for everyone, and maybe sometimes quality of our own content (SE makes more money, SE pays people more and keeps good people on board, better working environment). Those financial positions can be tough (makes Yoshida's position such a unique and interestingly tough one, being producer, designer, and director- has to think of stuff and then occasionally tell himself no sometimes lol), those decisions are hard to make.. But don't take that like I'm trying to stop people from asking for what they think is fair / a better / good deal. If you don't try to look out for yourself then you /will/ get hit by predatory practices (as any gamer knows lol, especially in the mobile market).
Tl;dr- I'm sorry lol. I don't have any hunch of feeling if they would consider it. Since whoever makes this decision has to go through a tree of weighted partially unknown choices, some of which lead to important things like adding new workers/content. If this person is conservative in their decisions then it may default to a no, which means it might be really hard (to impossible) in changing their mind. Like perhaps they look and see it might not be an issue today but are concerned for the future, so they report back "no". Then again later they get this same request and they roll their eyes, lol, and check again and notice it still wouldn't really be an issue. Now they might be persuaded, or alternatively they just flip the desk and say I will never change it.
Would say good luck though and if possible it would be nice. Also just out of curiosity how would you feel if they un-gendered some of the character gear rather than make them switch-able, in that I mean everyone could dress up as Yuna, Areith, Tidus, Vincent, etc? In comparison to being able to switch from Yuna <->Tidus. I read you said it would be optimal removing gendering on armors, but was curious if that included not being able to switch from Yuna to Tidus but rather just being able to wear the dress as a male too. Maybe if they think making gender swapping is a headache they might consider letting everyone cosplay their favorite character's regardless of gender (of course then they'd need to tweak the gear for more character models though lol). Although that seems less likely for something like a bikini from a seasonal event.. so I still see conversion power being really nice (converting swim wear / etc).
On the promoting part though, I think you've done a great job so far (if they translate popular threads then I imagine yours would have been one, 86 is a pretty good number for a non-rage thread lol). Perhaps when new restricted gear happens to be added you might consider updating your thread (by bumping it with new info and that same desire, "x just got added and it's restricted, I love the outfit but could you please do X"). As far as I can tell they prefer we keep related info in the same thread, and are okay with us updating threads with new posts, just don't /bump it every hour non-stop (context-less bump are not great lol, should have something to add if updating ^_^).
