The way I see it is that if I'm on heals and a fight is banking on my DPS to go smoothly then something is FUBAR.

Do you have specific examples of where you were challenged for not dpsing in the new content? Because I've yet to even have more than a 'hi' in the many that I've done so far.I just tried healing again after taking a 2 year break, switched to tank, and was enjoying it but once I got to the end game, its back to usual. Even with the removal of a large chunk of the healer DPS spells and abilities, the player community is still demanding, not asking, demanding that healers still DPS.
Not a welcome experience for me one bit. I don't mind contributing when I can but being outright told that I am causing trouble if I am focusing on healing because... well...they need to be healed (people standing in the fire), it really gets to me. I cant DPS if I am spending my mana on rezzes or heals or needing to save mana for a mechanic, etc. I know the devs are trying to reduce the need for healer DPS but it isn't working.
TLDR: Healer DPS is more important than anything else, if you don't, your dead weight, get lost.
This argument doesn't need to be needlessly brought up - if you don't want/like/know how to dps and heal then focus on keeping your group up.
When you feel comfortable with the content and you can dps a bit then do so.
If you find that you are just standing around doing nothing then people might take issue.
No we absolutely do not.As to the WHM DPS potency, yea they need a nerf, a big one too.
Healing is the priority hands down. AoE heals costs 10% of our mana pool, Cure II costs 10% of our mana pool, Rezzes cost 24%.
I do DPS when I have the room to do so, but in current content it's generally not often that I do. At most, I'm getting 2-3 Glares before healing becomes necessary again; I cast Dia whenever it falls off but that's about it. Every 3 lilly heals (Which I use to conserve MP) I throw an Afflatus Misery.
But with the % mana tradeoff atm for trying to DPS and heal, Healing definitely takes priority -- as it should lol.
That has never been the pro dps side's argument and you know it. We never, ever, say dps comes first. We want people to dps instead of constantly casting cure 1, physick, benefict to keep the tank topped off even though their health hasn't even dipped below 90%.
Eh, I dunno about you, but I always try to play my best in every dungeon I do. Idling, and eating/drinking during a dungeon (excluding between pulls) doesn't sit right with me. I just don't feel like I should be wasting anybody else's time. This is an MMO, if I want to mess around and not play my hardest, I'll either play with only friends who don't mind, or play solo content.
(I also don't eat or drink while playing because I am paranoid of spilling something on my laptop, and I like to be in full relax mode when eating)

That kind of mentality made me last Heal in 1.0. Never touched a Healer ever again since ARR because I really hate this Healer have to DPS Mentality
But if everyone is good health wise what else are you doing? Itd be like I’d the tanks ran out, grabbed aggro, and then proceeded to not do anything until you needed to pull something back. FF14’s combat is just not built for a “pure” healer.
Next time I go in a dungeon, I'll pull wall to walk and proceed to not deal any damage. My job is to tank after all isn't it? Not deal damage, that's not my job.
If something gets aggro on something else, I will take it back and proceed to sit there.
It's the DPS job to deal damage, not mine. I'm just here to make sure things are aggro on me.
See how ridiculous this sounds?
