Is there actually a difference in the video quality between the 1440 × 900 resolution of the 32-bit client and the 2880 × 1800 resolution of the 64-bit client? I suspect that these resolutions are actually the same.

You're kidding? I don't want to come off as mean if you don't know. These are the literal number of pixels the game uses for it's screen output. If you take a screen shot they are the size of the image you get. I usually play in 1280 X 800, but use higher res to get screenshots. When I was using 32bit I would use 2560 x 1600 for most of my posed screenshots. 2880 x 1800 is a little to much for ol'girl and a lot of the textures would be getting sloppy at that point anyway. With the new client I'm stuck with 1680 x 1050 and I get much smaller images.
You get a less jagged image are higher resolution and more of the available texture detail.
