Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

I'd say they're roughly equal in terms of options. Hrothgar are more interesting to me since they're genuinely something different to everything else so far. Viera are...alright but they're just more 'waifu bait' in a game already focusing a little too much on such things.

I'm also inclined to take the development team at their word. Yoshi-P is very passionate about the game and I do not think he would actively lie to the game's fans.

That's assuming that all the expansion will take place on the First, which I'm positive we wouldn't. There's still some plot threads in Garlemald, we saw Estinien with Gaius in the Launch Trailer (and it doesn't seem like they came to the First), and a shot of Count Edmund's Memoirs. Since we still have the empire to deal with, it's likely we'll go back to the Source for a lot of the MSQ post 5.0, and Yoshi-P's words implied we'd be hearing about them in 5.1 and above, because the 5.0 script should have been pretty much ready when he said that (although, given that the naming conventions for Viera and Hrothgar won't be ready until AFTER the official launch...).

The preview for GNB has a Hrothgar AND a Viera (which, I was very much laughing at, just let the Hroths have the full spotlight for once lol), so it's likely we'll see Hroths and Viera in the Source as well (and on that point, we're going BACK to the Source for the lvl 80 job quests so there must still be reasons for us to return to the Source post 5.0 MSQ)

My point does still stand, though. If we hear anything about male Vii and female Ronso on the First, then that's lore specifically for the First and has nothing to do with the Sources' races. We are most likely going to hear a lot about Vii lore due to their village being in The Rak'tika Greatwoods.

Unfortunately, we also know a lot about male Viera lore and how restrictive SE has made it... but again, it is kinda still possible to make them playable. Examples in bullet points posted previously. Naturally, the same applies to female Hrothgar (though with them we know little to nothing about them, so their lore could potentially be less restrictive than male Viera).

I know I am... but that was mainly because of one certain GFAQ's poster who went on about Viera back when/before ARR came out >_>

As much as I love the Hroths and prefer them over Viera, I can't help but agree here. Though to be fair, the game favors females in general with males as a whole being an afterthought - plus Viera have always been a popular race. Either way it is what it is.

It doesnt matter if your alt is a fem Hrothgar or not. What counts is if you are going to play one as your main and if it will be worth the development.

Just a note, but some folks do make use of alts either for raiding, crafting, gathering, roleplaying, or just for goofing around with a different face. I've got 7 lv 70s geared and ready for SHB, and 2 characters working through SB. My alts count as unique active players on censuses lol

Agreed. I had 7 max level characters with multiple maxed jobs at one point, and abandoned 3. I only have 4 right now, but they all have their roles in my gaming. They're all different races too.(For roleplay reasons, of course)
