For thsoe who dont know ...there IS a monster hunter online mmo and its called MONSTER HUNTER FRONTIER.

Which has been out for quite some time...

Just a thought, but seeing the way Monster Hunter plays, it greatly resembles Phantasy Star Online which predates the monster hunter series (released in 2000). So ya, mmo's of this nature have been around for a long time. (looking forward to Phantasy Star Online 2 this year as well).

You wouldn't say that they're alike at all if you played it for a bit.
PSO is an endless grind-fest while MH you can play with naked armor if you're insanely good at it. Killing Lagisaurus naked is the video game equivalent of wrestling a lion in a thong.

I've played almost 400hrs now but I'll never ever ever ever be able to do that. It's a real testament to good strategy and good combat system with real balance that Skyrim and XIV can only dream of.

Having watched my friends play on their PSP's and seeing video of Monster Hunter Frontier Online, I still stand by my statement that they do resemble one another, albeit Phantasy Star Online's gameplay is much more primitive.

Watching someone play doesn't mean anything, he's completely right in saying the two games are completely different and PSO is in no way more "primitive" than monster hunter. It's simply more based on stats and classic rpg fair compared to MH which is more gear and skill/action oriented.

They're pretty much nothing alike with the exception that you move a dude around with the analog stick.
