Allow me to go a bit deeper into the Eldersrolly thing. Seems some are not quite grocking the concept.

The other day i was bumbling along in skyrim unlocking areas on the map (i like to unlock all the things). I stumbled onto this really nifty temple with a really nice statue up on top. I figured I was there so might as well go check it out.

The next thing i know said statue is talking to me and asking me to go get some orb. Alrighty, well when a giant statue asks you to do something its because either a) something really powerful is communicating through it b) you have totally gone off your rocker and you might as well enjoy the ride.

I get said shiny bobble bring it back and the next thing i know there is column of light surrounding me and i am being pulled upwards. I keep going up and up and up until i get so far up that i can see from riften to markath in one move of my mouse (for those who don't know these two towns are at the opposite ends of the massive map). once i stop moving upwards i have a nice little chat with a god.

Every thing up to and past this point was not some main story device. It was all because I decided to go exploring and stumbled into one heck of a little adventure while doing so.

This is what i mean by elderscrolly, A rich game world that you want to explore and dive head first into. Stumbling into cool happenings, Finding little clues and nudges about things and whole adventures popping up because you happened to find a cryptic map or overheard a conversation or find something interesting during a totally unrelated adventure.

The day that I am bumbling around eorzea and some random rock or statue in some back water area starts talking to me and sets me on a path that leads to high adventure and great fun is a day that truly wish to see.

If you're whining about bugs in Skyrim, I hope you people stay away from earlier entries in the series.

This thread will continue to tickle the crap out of me years from now when I think of it. A group of people playing one of the worst rated mmo's in history dogging one of the best reviewed single player games of the decade. Regardless of how you feel about the game, Skyrim is immensly popular because the worlds Bethesda creates feel alive (bugs or not). Considering that the MAIN issue with XIV was that it had an empty world that feels dead, and a total lack of content, I fail to understand how the rest of you can't grasp why Skyrim is popular and this game is not. I certainly don't think that everyone MUST love SKyrim or MUST think XIV is crap, they both have a load of flaws, but for as flawed as they both are, they are also incredibly similar. Both contain an open world and are a continuation of a beloved series that have built a large following. People got what they expected from Skyrim (including the bugs) and were happy with it (reviews and sales prove that). People most definitly did NOT get what they expected out of XIV.

"...but FFXI sucked at release too!" We've all heard that in some form.
Besides FFXIV was in way worse condition at launch than Skyrim.

I'd rather give all benefit of the doubt to all developers because bugs can come from anywhere unexpected. Fanboys giving SE a "free pass" to screw up twice? Call me crazy but I find that worse. The large lack of content is very discouraging as many expect it to already be there.

Bethesda is rather known for releasing buggy yet fun games. (I mean the company still exists for a reason right? They must be doing something right, same for SE)
They also work to patch the issues and release game editing kits for player mod community to fix anything else... or heck even add more stuff. SE games you kinda have to pray SE will do something about it.

I don't want SE to have the impression that each MMO they make is going to suck at release. If they even bother try at another MMO after 2 dismal game launches.

I have high hopes for 2.0. As do many other people. I hope they don't let us down.

Don't you know? It's super cool to hate on popular games.

    What I like about Skryim:
    - Freedom of choice, no matter how broken it makes the game (Heavy armor wizard ftw)
    - I can kill anything I want to, MUAHAHAHAHAHA
    - You get your own personal slave to follow you around
    - Don't have to stick to the main story to progress through the game
    - You can "choose" your adventure (as in multiple in-depth questlines)
    - You don't have to grind to progress through the story (it helps but is not required as you don't have to have a certain skill in anything, as far as I know, to take part in quests)

What I like about Monster Hunter in general
    - Awesome combat (skill-based rather than "look how high my stats are")
    - Weapons are all unique in some way
    - Nothing is useless; you can use anything you gather from corpses/etc. to craft something
    - All the weapons and armor look cool

    What I dislike about both:
    - It's hard to translate what is likable about them to MMOs, especially the combat and free character progression, without making the game a mess of lag bugs and broken character growth
    - Character models look ugly usually

Actually MH 3 Tri is just few open areas away from being a true MMO and structure wise it's not that much more instanced from what our raids are and always will be.

Also Monster Hunter Online has been in business for years and it has spawned several expansions so other than that I agree with your comment.
