Shout Out to Early Access Players

I mean I preordered off Amazon and the delivery arrives on July 2. I figure I'll have access to character customization changes, but my experience with Stormblood was that unless there's a physical disc I can't do any MSQ stuff or new areas. Also won't get the Shadowbringers logo background until I get physically setup. My understanding is early access gets to kick off after the update, so 28th or so? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong of course, I haven't properly looked this stuff up so much as am connecting dots.

EDIT: It is cool collector's edition people get to play early with codes, it's all a bit mysterious to me though haha. Far as I know I'm not getting any pre-order perks with aetherite earrings either because of amazon. What can ya do.

If you preordered, you should have gotten an email with a Preorder Access Code, and a direct to a website to put that code in to start registering your account for Early Access. If you have done that—and you can check your Early Access status on the Mogstation—you should be able to download the patch on the 27th and participate in Early Access on the 28th. When your physical copy arrives, you will then need to input your second code inside the case to register the expansion proper. Even digital download people have to do this—we will receive our second code after Early Access and will have to register the expansion in order to continue with it and its features.

Quick additional post after having read through replies more (sorry, straight up I am checking this between sleeping so am super drowsy) I am going to check my e-mail to see if I got anything when I ordered. Thanks for the heads up dudes! This would be the coolest surprise if it works out!

EDIT: LMAO HOLY DAMN APPARENTLY I MISSED THAT E-MAIL COMPLETELY AND AM ACTUALLY AN EARLY ACCESS PLAYER TOO.

Sounds like you installed to PS4 from the disc? You can actually download it as a digital edition once you've registered the game to your PS4 library, and then you can play it without touching the disc ever again.

You'd need to delete the disc data and download the whole thing again, but it's possibly worth it. Wait until you've got the Shadowbringers disc registered first, in case it gets funny about adding that to the account otherwise.

I also ordered the physical disc. After discussing this with SE Support yesterday you will not need the disc to participate in Early Access. As long as you have previously registered the game and have it loaded on your PS4 the SB client will automatically be downloaded digitally in the wee small hours of the 28th. you should have received instructions from Amazon for Early Access. Just follow them and you should be good to go.

^ basically this, had to go through this with HW, started to worry by the Monday if my physical copy would show up on time XD it did and middy has yet to leave his box due to how notoriously fragile he is.

Also for people who may have a hard time finding any emails from SE sometimes they may go into spam so be careful about mass deleting emails

I was meaning generally. I bought the physical Complete Edition of ARR-Stormblood and because I installed it digitally, I don't have to use the disc to start up the game.

But having done that, I don't know if trying to activate a physical copy of Shadowbringers would mess with that. The PS4 can't have a digital and disc-installed version of a game on it at the same time, so it would potentially want to delete the digital data as soon as you put the disc in.

On the other hand, I think you might get a registration code and can just type that into the PS Store, and never put the Shadowbringers disc in the console at all.

Still. Better to not delete the disc version and download the digital files right now - just in case installing Shadowbringers in a few days' time means doing the whole thing over again.
