I personally liked Lyse, so I don't understand all the dislike towards her. But, to each there own.
However, I don't know who this "Lyna" person is. Could someone help? D=

On the other hand. Square Enix let's have Lyna get all lovey eyes at my Warrior of Darkness so I can feel like a big man because you won't let me, also to make people uncomfortable. Snort.
@Gambanner.
Lyna is the new important Viera NPC for shadowbringers.

I don't see the issue with her seeing as she does nothing like all other NPCs. I mean we do all the work from EVERYONE... why is this news?
Tho to be more detailed on the topic at hand I REALLY don't understand the hate Lyse gets. I got she just wantde to save her home so bad but had NO idea how. She didn't take credit from us - the main character/PC- and under minded anything she tried to do. She was confused and needed help, this was shown in the jail with Hien. I thought she was played perfectly since she's NEVER shown leadership skills as Yda and it shows here.
I also thought the story hit her every chance it got to remind her she wasn't ready for this, the only reason why people wanted her to lead was for her to grow. Hell a town flat out called her out for not knowing how they felt early on in the plot.
I'mma just say you guys jealous of that crappy red dress. The jacket is WAAAAAAY better anyway.

I have a Heavensward poster framed on my wall. I like it because I like almost every character on it. I do however, not like the Stormblood poster, because Lyse if featured most prominently on it despite her having almost no integral role in the story. I feel like the poster is an example of false advertising. Fordola is also the second most prominent character on the poster next to Lyse and she also no conclusion to her story, it just ends up forgotten. Stormblood's story is kind of a mess and you get the VERY strong impression they just didn't know what to do with these characters. It would not even be an exaggeration to say that Alphinaud and Alisaie end up as more important characters to the ongoing plot of Stormblood, and they aren't even on the poster.
Lyse is even most prominent on the Stormblood logo. It's almost comical how she does not merit being Stormblood's mascot.

In the case of Fordola, her story is wrapped up in a Tales from the Storm story. But yeah, we don’t see her in game after 4.1.

Lyse is portrayed very differently between English and Japanese dialogue. Not so much by what is said, but how it's said. Some nuances that have gotten lost or changed between the languages. Lyse is way more humble in Japanese, but Lyse, by no means, was simply handed leadership without cause. She also didn't take credit for the Warrior of Light's work. Lyse is energetic and idealistic - she can't fathom why people want to just accept their fate of being slaves to the Empire, so she encourages them to fight. We, the Warrior of Light, show those those people that you can beat back this oppressive force that has broken the Ala Mhigan people time and again for the last 15 years (I think that's how long it's been for them?).
As it were, we went to Ala Mhigo partially at Lyse's behest. The Garleans are a political enemy, not a Scion one; primals are the Scion's job. The Garleans are the enemy of the Alliance (Limsa, Ul'Dah, Gridania, Ishgard and now a newly freed Ala Mhigo). Not even Thavnair, Hingashi or Sharlayan care that the Garleans are a thing (neutral standing at best currently). Before the Garlean occupation of Ala Mhigo, Gridania was at war with Ala Mhigo as it were (Autumn War).
We've also been told that all beastmen are slaves to their primals. Yet, we have the beastmen factions that see the tempered for what they really are and are good individuals themselves. All of the moogles praise Good King Moggle Mog akin to the tempered, but they don't summon him, for the most part.
The tempered with Lyse have never gone to another government body to attempt peace. You're given the choice to warn Lyse (tempered cannot be trusted) or back her up (maybe there is a chance or whatever the equivalent was). It turned out to be a ruse, but it was nothing that had happened before. Remember, not all primals are bad (not be confused with their existence fundamentally is bad because they drain the aether from the land) as Ramuh has shown to be completely understanding of what he is and what his summoning means for the world. Or, if you want to take it a step farther, Phoenix / Louisoix.
It adds nothing to the story to hang something over a character as a mistake, especially when it was brought up by Lyse that she's unsure if she can lead, but her fellow countrymen supported her. To suddenly 180 on their support should really have us question the people of Ala Mhigo for having such flippant views and wonder why we risked life and limb to free them when we really had no business being there anymore after the primals were dealt with other than at a friend's behest (who is, again, Lyse).
It's fine to not like a character for whatever you deem justified, but I don't think a lot of people paid attention to the entirety of the events of Stormblood or the characters as a whole.
She is collared and forced to fight against primals with that summoner squad as a punishment / sentence for her crimes. Primals are still being summoned by the beastmen, but there are now other people within the confines of the game's universe that can handle them while player characters are allowed to advance the story. It's why we're not going back to the original city-states every month to put down the original three time and again. It's pretty concluded.
If you ask me, Lyse and Fordola are so prominent in the poster because of what the characters are meant to stand for: Lyse the dreamer, fighting for her home against the hopelessness of the situation and the will to defy fate.
Fordola the survivor, betraying her birth country to live and survive, accepting the fate dealt to her.
The themes of these characters were echoed throughout all of Stormblood by minor and major characters alike.

But not all of them are good either, and given that she had first hand experience with said Tempered individuals and Lakshmi she would have a good idea that they would fall more on the Ifrit/Leviathan Tempered side than Ramuh. It's also made very clear by Ramuh that there is /no known way/ to save a tempered individual, a conversation Lyse was very much present for and that he couldn't stop the Sylphs from defending their perceived territory after they had been tempered. Had Lyse not been there with us for Lakshmi I could agree with your assessment, but she was there. She had first hand experience that Lakshmi is not like Ramuh and that her tempered are not peaceful if merely left alone - and that Lakshmi is very much keen on tempering outside of the Ananta. And the story also makes it very clear that most city-states do not tolerate Tempered to live, especially those from hostile primals. The Ifrit tempered you meet in the MSQ are all killed after that fight. Not a single one is spared because they CAN'T be. I think the only notable exception to this is Ga Bu, but he isn't a threat in his catatonic state and if I recall it's never implicitly said he was tempered. (Please correct me if I'm wrong, that part of the MSQ has been awhile for me.)
The reason I bring this up is because while the mistake might seem silly to hang over her head for a narrative that insists that Lyse makes mistakes and is learning something like that is /vital/. And frankly throughout the entirety of Stormblood nothing like that happens to her. Nothing that sticks at any rate beyond the five minutes it takes to even ponder the problem. Normally I wouldn't care, not everyone needs to follow in Alphinaud's footsteps and be defined by their mistakes and how they react to them. Not every character needs be cut from the same cloth. Except when everyone defending the character claims that she's learning from mistakes and the narrative is /telling/ us this without /showing/ us it in any way shape or form, then I will take issue with it. This was the perfect chance to actually SHOW what they were trying to do with Lyse and progress her character, but instead nothing is done with it and in the time we're gone to Doma she does all her growth off screen instead. It's bad writing for a character that frankly deserved better.
