Thread: Please Square do not turn Lyna into Lyse 2.0

I like Lyse and have been going back through scenes from MSQ and dialogue in quests. It is still really weird to me when I see the hate she gets tbh. Like people can feel that way but it feels like I played a different game or something.

I don’t think Lyse’s main role of import was to be a battle strategist. That was 100% Rauban and is acknowledged in-game. What she is shown to be good at is rallying people, creating alliances, and inspiring support. Also punching things but I mean a lot of characters in FFXIV can punch things. Lyse is kind of interesting to me because she works best in a diplomatic function. She’s still new at it and reads as very sincere, open, and kind by and large. We as the player know she sometimes has a temper, can be indecisive, and (on top of that indecision) doesn’t always think before acting. Being in a diplomat role in Ala Mhigo with those qualities has potential to be crazy interesting in terms of how she does and doesn’t change, and what the cost is under both circumstances.

I disliked Lyse from the moment she took off her mask. She was never a leader and never pivotal to the story even though it was written around her. I got very tired of my WOL being given orders to go do this and that (like fighting Zenos/Shinryu) and then she takes the credit and we have to walk in her shadow, two steps behind. We did not even get a pretty red dress out of the deal!

I just found her whiny, annoying and irrelevant. I would have preferred for Raubahn and M’Naago to have been made the actual leaders in name and not just the true leaders behind the red dress.

For the record, I didn’t like Minfilia either. XD

I'd have given Lyse and the story an ounce of slack if just 1 NPC brought up nepotism.

When did she take credit for Zenos/Shinryu? She was part of the battle for the city until Shinryu was dead and Zenos was ready to kill himself.

During the final progression of 4.0 proper, she does take front-and-center during the walk to the edge of the royal palace—right before everyone starts singing and the credits roll. That almost gives off the impression that she’s taking credit for it, in my opinion. She certainly doesn’t deserve that spot. No matter how pretty the dress may be. It feels really shoehorned.

The reason we went to Ala Mhigo was to liberate it from the Garlean Empire. The fact that Lyse happened to be from Ala Mhigo was just a coincidence. We didn't go there because of her. Lyse gave credit to the WoL for everything we did for her. I don't know where you're getting the idea she took credit for everything. In fact, she usually downplays her role in whatever happens or outright gives credit to someone else entirely.

The narrative framed it as her story. As Enla highlighted better than I, we were told such and such about Lyse but shown something completely different. Time and time again, Lyse stood front and center or was shilled by other characters for her accomplishments. Whenever she did occasionally downplay something, the narrative either insinuated she was correct in the end or everyone else talked her up as being important.

I could not stand what they did to Yda. It basically felt like an excuse to write off a "frequently hated character" to make her something potentially more relatable? (Not sure. I loved Yda, especially her chemistry with Papalymo, yet hated Lyse.) To me, Yda - the character we knew - is dead. Lyse is a whole new character and... a very unlikeable one at that. I didn't think she was at all deserving either. I loved the parts where Raubahn basically made his entrance. He's da man. /fangirl
