Unlurks briefly: There's a lot of judgmental 'because of past comments by x people, all supporters of male viera are y' - which is naturally bait. No one has to apologize for that and no one should be in here demanding that. Stop being baited, stop throwing out the bait. If someone comes in here and says that, ignore their comment. It LITERALLY is not worth the time. The people who reacted poorly in the past... DID SO. And that is not on the people who are NOT reacting poorly now. So that is that. Also, if people are just coming in and throwing out bait comments of 'I hate the idea of male viera, I hope you all never get them!' That's bait, right? They have a right to voice their comments, sure. WHY they'd choose to come into a 'support' thread to do so... aside from being petty, is a bit beyond me... but hey, they can. But like the other, there's zero reason to respond to it. They voiced their opinion, ignore it and move on.

You want this to be a positive thread, and for a very long time it HAS been. I've lurked here since the thread was created. I've seen its ups and downs. I've watched a lot of the petty bait get tossed around. I've watched a lot of the debates, and they've been interesting or recycled. But there's zero reason to get repeatedly baited by the same things. Acknowledge that there are people who are going to try to dredge up stuff and just brush it off. There's no reason to respond to each and every attempt to point fingers at people who didn't do things or, if they were done, were also moved past and previously apologized for. It's become a habit to drag anyone who wants male viera and it's a little pathetic to use such childish reasons as I've seen the lasts few pages. Everyone can maturely say 'I'd like to see this added' and talk about how they'd like to see it without being rude to each other. That's all that is needed. There is ZERO reason to be petty or rude to each other and NO reason to wish ill or say that the other people should NOT get something they like or want. NONE.

Although I'm not one of them, it's probably a mixture of reasons, but chiefly 1) dislike of the direction the game is taking with the reintroduction of gender-locks and 2) a feature they were expecting did not materialise, with nothing that sufficed to compensate for it in their eyes. Some probably think it never will now.

For me, it's one less feature to draw me to the expansion. Not close to enough to being a dealbreaker, but people do look at expansions in terms of what they're adding in terms of how much value it provides to them.

Yes, but like stormblood, what if no new races were announced at all? Would anyone have really made a big deal about it, I mean aside from some more threads demanding more to be added? Without new races, I think this expansion could probably hold up on it's own. I don't think disagreements with gender-locks is a wholly valid argument for taking the stance of "give me this or I unsub", "I don't support this kind of behavior", or something along those lines. It's a genderlock, a genderlock has no bearing at all on the actual game. New races are literally just a cosmetic. Some people will argue that cosmetics are content in and of themselves, and I would agree to an extent since I play this game to semi-collect things and glamour my character, but again, if no new races were introduced this would be a total non-argument, because it literally, again, has no bearing on the game itself. A game based solely on cosmetics is a bad game.

So again, why were people playing this game for years ahead of time, probably even before au ra, threatening to unsub? It is obvious that male viera is not the reason they started playing this game, hope or not.

It's not like I would unsub because of no male viera, but is it wrong for other people to unsub because of it? It's their money and they're speaking with their wallets.

I'm not saying it's not their right, I'm saying it is completely illogical for that to be a reason to do it, in my opinion.

Yes, but I've seen people threaten, or rather just say they will unsub if male viera don't get announced. Why were people who say something like this playing the game, if a race that was never in this game, and for a gender that never existed at all (or rather appeared before) in the first place? You can make a request and want something - which is the reason female viera were introduced in the first place, but I don't understand this other logic.

I think it's fine for people to refuse to subscribe to the game for any reason they so please. I do, however, lose any sympathy when they have public meltdowns - which was unfortunately very common earlier on in the thread.

I'd like to see the missing genders added to the game but if it doesn't happen I won't lose any sleep over it. It's just not a huge deal for me and I'm not invested on a personal level. Even if the game crashes and burns in the immediate future - which I find unlikely - there's a lot to look forward to in the future such as Cyberpunk 2077 and FF7R. Not to mention other hobbies to indulge in.

I'm taking a lot of the comments as threats, "give me or I unsub", and a lot of people who have grown tired of some male viera supporters I think are thinking the same thing. People should continue to be requesting what they want in a respectful manner, and more people would hear them out, along with SE.

I don't agree, I don't want this game to crash and burn, nor would there be a replacement in the near future for this game if it did. It fills a niche that only it can do.

But it's not like Stormbood this time. The thing is, they added races, said these would probably be the last and initially made it seem as though the missing options would not be added at all. Now it's softened a bit but it's still in an uncertain state. That, to me, can be taken as a change of direction which may not have sat well with some people, irrespective of how much they liked some of its other aspects. SB was silent on the whole matter and so was not taken to have the same implications for the game, because it did not close any doors, either.

I see it as a perfectly valid argument, but it's down to consumer priorities as a player.

Also, the whole "been playing this for years" thing only works to an extent - it's like the argument you hear when people complain about a lack of change in the PVE model. Yes, things have been good enough to remain subbed over the past few years but doing the same thing over and over can grow stale for certain people.

It can even be a combination of factors over and above just one. So, besides the people who were accusing SE of "sexism" and other such silliness, I don't really see an issue with unsubbing if the issue is enough of a dealbreaker to you (in general terms.)

I haven't seen a lot of "give me or I unsub" comments recently, though.

They may not be recently in this specific thread, but male viera apparently gets spammed all over twitch, and has been said in the past here along with the "homophobia" comments . People have long memories and when they think of a male viera supporter they default to comments like these. Judging by the amount of posts made this morning, and some of the context of the posts I read, it seems to still be at a strong level and people are attacking each other on both sides, which is ultimately unhealthy for the concept of male viera in the future. There is a reason this thread is so heavily moderated, because talks always seem to devolve into bickering.
