I always undercut, because why wouldn't you? I want my item to sell so I can craft more and sell another item. The amount I undercut varies depending on the sale price of the item. Usually by around 100gil for items < 50k and more as the prices go up.

A reasonable undercut is just rewarding the person who pays attention to their sales, is online more, and keeps theirs at the lowest price. If folks only undercut by a little then everyone wins (the sellers .

I've never understood someone who undercuts by a large amount. For the stuff I sell, you aren't going to sell any faster, you just are going to make less. But if someone does I will either price it just below the major undercut, buy their item if is stupidly priced, or if the price has gotten to low, I leave mine at the higher price as it will sell.

Its because thats what gil sellers do.

I once thought I should play fair game on the market board and don't undercut the other items, just put them on the same price and everyone is happy, right?

Well... this changed at once specific day.

It was in 2.3 when they added desynthesis. As soon as I heared you can get bikinis from fish desynthesis I put a lot of work into my fisher to gear him and level up the desynthesis level. I have leveled my fisher to 50, but abandoned him because apparently he was not able to earn much money. But fishing was fun for me and now I could sell these bikinis, right?

Well, after a lot of effort I was actually the first person on my server who had the red bikini skirt for girls on the market. A super rare item and every catgirl would love to have this, right? Well... apparently not. It was lying there for 2 weeks or so and nobody bought it. Of course the price was a bit high, but not too astronomical and this item is super rare, so I thought the price was fine.

I often checked if someone else also had put the red bikini skirt on the market, but nothing happened.

And then, one day when I checked the market board again, I see in the history that someone else had put his bikini skirt on the market board and had already sold it for 10 gil less than mine. It was only a few hours since I checked the last time.

That was the moment when it made click in my head. I had put so much work into this, the item was lying there for 2 weeks, but someone else was making the profit, just because he undercut me by 10 gil.

And since then I don't care anymore for fair play or whatever. I want to sell stuff. I undercut. That's simply how this market works.

I undercut to get rid of stuff ASAP. I don't have room to keep junk I don't want. My saddlebags, inventory, and retainers are all nearly maxed. A large portion of it is fishing bait, so this won't be as big of a problem come 5.0.

I undercut because I just want to get rid of the crap my retainers bring me while hoping to make something resembling a profit.

I undercut to move my auctions as quickly as possible while also making a reasonable (to me) profit. I have no desire to "spite crafters", but I am also not intentionally trying to "make things affordable to everyone" either. I simply want to get things out of my inventory and free up my market slots as quickly as possible and keep the gil rolling in.

How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?

I just want to get rid of the item tbh. Most of the stuff I put on the mb are anything between crafting reagents, dyes, glamour gear, whatever I just think someone out there may want and be willing to pay more than 40 gil for it. Sometimes I intentionally put an item at half the price as everyone else (say, a map)...and still get undercutted...dude I just basically gave you a 50% discount what the f-

For single items, like gear, minions, you undercut or you won't sell. Undercutting by small amounts is often just good business.

I don't understand people who post at or less than the vend price. You could have just vended it!!

I often undercut by 1-5 gil so my product stands at the top and gets bought quicker.
Considering that most sale prices range in the 1000s, 1-5gil is completely negligible.

If I undercut by a larger amount, that's the result of me looking at the sales history and estimating a median selling price. Oftentimes you only have a few items in there for absurd amounts b/c s/o just bought all the normal priced stock.

Did he actually SELL it at that price, or was that just the price on the MB. If you look through some of the mid to high priced stuff, you will find many items that simply never sell - possibly for some because nobody knows they exist (like maybe your red bikini?)
