Just a few pointers:I'm not even sure what point you're trying to make here except "Ra! Ra! FFXIV!"
WoW's transmog system is better than FFXIV's glamour system in just about every measurable way. You shouldn't feel like this is some kind of attack here, it's just a fact.
120k gold was a lot at the time, not so much now. 40% of players having a mount like this IS a sizable portion of the playerbase. Also that was a really good guess if that was a guess. https://www.worldofwargraphs.com/global-stats/mounts says 39.3% of players own that mount.
Beyond the mount though transmogs are easy to apply in any city, cost peanuts, are saved per character and per specialization (which means the same piece of gear will have a different transmog applied when you change specs), and oh yeah the appearance collection is still a thing.
It's ok for WoW to have a better system, but it should be a model for how FFXIV can do better in this regard.
- Gold is not so easily obtained right now. Past a certain point a full change is very expensive.
- Are not saved per spec.
The only thing that it's better is the log, everything else is similar but with a heavier gold sink.

Was there some kind of massive change between now and a few months ago?
Transmog sets are per character and per spec. And the way I know this is my main used the same set of gear for all three of its specs and the transmog in use changed when I switched between them.
And the most I've ever seen a full transmog application cost is about 100g. I'm not talking about Azerite armor. I'm talking about transmog.

The way it works is based on what the piece cost (minimum cost is 1g), and at this point, certain single pieces are already around 100g (weapons more). At 120 a full change is going to cost you way more than 100g.Was there some kind of massive change between now and a few months ago?

Transmog is saved per piece and nothing else. However, the way WoW is setup each specialization benefit more from certain stats than others so having a full set of gear for each one is normal. But no, WoW don't have anything similar to FF14 "glamour plates".
