See, I used to think that as well, seeing how there some threads that would use ff14 as a very loose reference to discuss something that ends up not being about ff14 later on.

But then you got a thread discussing Asperger and some other medical stuff where FF14 is not mentioned at all and it manages to stay for days. It's buried now in the pages but unless the OP who made it comes around and says they got banned/warned for it, I'm of the belief the mods will only take action if something's reported.

Anything started on the forums should be settled on the forums. We're discussing forum moderation and transparency not personal grudges. Even if we were discussing personal grudges nobody should be taking that outside of the forums. Even remotely suggesting that people should find other's information so they can 'solve it IRL' is wrong in every way.

I think you all should really is actually more healthy for you and for others, so others do not have to get involved in your personal vendettas and the internet doesn't become your personal grudge safe space neither SE your mommy and the Forums moderators your daddy to monitor when someone trigger the hate comments or not.

Don't really think neither SE or forums moderators should be parenting such childish behavior.

On other hand in real life you have places where you can solve your differences with legal representation and all.

Except none of us are even discussing personal grudges or vendettas in this thread. That’s not what this thread is about at all, so I’m unsure why you keep bringing it up. We’re addressing concerns with moderation and consistency in a calm manner, and just wanting a bit more transparency and communication in the future, should this thread been seen by those who need to see it. These are all questions and concerns that really only the forum moderation team can answer, which is why we are asking them here. There is no better place to ask them, really.

I'm just gonna say this, I fully understand the action taken by the mods.

While the action could have been less severe, most of us on that thread were simply trying to lighten the mood, some of the worst things done have been done with good intentions.

In the end, I found a home in an FC because of it. So, I'll take the good with the bad and learn a lesson for the future.

The thread was merely a catalyst for this one—this discussion about punishments is honestly not new, as there have been threads made in the past on here and other outside platforms about moderation on the official forums after other incidents completely unrelated to this one. The inconsistencies and heavy-handedness mentioned throughout these pages was present far before this incident. Right now, the only one who continues to bring it up is you.

Well was trying to help if you didn't got so far what I meant you won't get it in the future so there is nothing else we can discuss from here about the said subject.

This I can agree with. A warning system or something like that maybe? Kinda like "Hey there pal, you're treading on thin ice. Step off or face swift justice."

In a perfect world, everyone could be civil and just agree to disagree when disagreements happen.

I also think it's like what Iscah and a few others have said earlier about how it depends on who reports whom first, which puts those of us who'd just let something slide at a disadvantage against the easily offended or overly spiteful. Kind of the Quick and the Dead, you gotta report them before they report you and that's not a very good system.

I'd really like to reach out to any moderators who may be reading this who might be willing to offer some insight about the process. While I can only vouch for my own actions, I believe in good faith that the responses from the others towards anything posted will be done in a civil, constructive manner since we're all here for the express purpose of understanding and offering feedback.

I feel as though there is a major, major bias and lack of unity between mods. Favoritism per race (smarmy catgirl posts will stay despite rule breaking) and mods who may be players getting their opinions brought to light by allowing rule breaking posts to stay.

I distinctly recall a player during the male viera debate going off like they were on /b/ and not getting banned for days. In fact it may be the same person everyone keeps mentioning. I'm not sure. But those posts had me like oof.

I highly doubt there is favoritism at all when it comes to things like the race of your character and moderation. One of the most popular and well-liked forum members played a female Miqo’te for quite some time (though she is a female Midlander now) and was banned over pettiness in the Tales of the DF thread (you may actually see a hashtag present in some forum posters’ signatures related to her), so that debunks the “smarmy catgirl” theory you’ve suggested. I also don’t think that the moderators are players that are wanting to use rule-breaking posts as some message of their own personal opinions. Posts of all kinds are routinely removed and/or left to stand. There isn’t enough consistency to really prove either of these theories.

It’s all down to reports at this point, and I’m wondering if there’s a threshold that needs to be reached in order for actions to arise—be them from different people or repeated reports from the same person. Right now, we simply do not know. And perhaps we never really will, but. It is what it is.
