Lucky Bancho Active Character Statistics
Fun aside, this is an uptick of 412,000 from the last census on February 10th. Between returning players and new players, XIV has nearly doubled its active character population going into Shadowbringers. Of course, this number will inevitably drop as people lose interest but it remains the highest total XIV has ever mustered.
For a little extra trivia
Top Three Servers (Population)
Balmung
Mateus
Cactuar
Unsurprisingly, Crystal is the most populated Datacenter

The guy who originally convinced me to migrate to FFXIV from ESO (glad he did) has only one character, and it's on Balmung. I know him IRL, so I used to watch him play the game before I even got into it. I was never around for the launch of Stormblood, but I watched him having to deal with it.
He really wanted to progress in the story, but there was a cutscene that, upon ending, would not allow the players to enter a solo fight or something like that. Apparently, it was an error due to server load. What made it worse is that the entire cutscene had to be restarted to try it again.
Most people gave up after two or three tries. He tried for like an hour and just spammed it. Eventually, he got through. After that, his FC was jealous until the issue was resolved.
Yeah, that definitely sounds bad. lol.The guy who originally convinced me to migrate to FFXIV from ESO (glad he did) has only one character, and it's on Balmung. I mean, Yoshi P announced at E3 that they have the highest number of active subs that they've ever had right now going into Shadowbringers. So...yeah. Their peak back in HW was supposedly in the 1.5 million range. So it's larger than that. How much larger? Only SE truly knows. Either way the game is fine. More than fine, in fact. Probably on its way to taking the crown from WoW since it continues its fiery tailspin, though that's largely Blizzard's fault. If they weren't acting the way they are currently WoW would still be on top. Sadly it is slipping, and slipping fast. But FF XIV turned out to be the better game in the end, so...whatever.

These people I like to call vultures. They're prolly the same crowd that is cheering that WoW is struggling. And are also the same ppl who say ffxiv is dead everytime around the .5 series. But unlike 3.5, 4.5 has been swimming with ppl.Ask all the people who swore the game was dying back in ARR, it's a perpetual cycle that we cannot break free of. People seem to WANT the game to fail sometimes, for unknown reasons. Probably to excuse them not playing it. And yeah, I was on vacation while the SB stuff went on -- I'll be here this time though, and am not looking forward to the possibility of a repeat lol. Was on Famfrit back then, anyways.
Primal datacenter for life. Exodus is not too crowded, not too low. Perfect.
Ahh I remember the days when Mateus was that server with like 3000 people. It was nice, but new mateus is nice too.
For those worried about a repeat of Raubhan Savage. I am not saying it wont happen, but they do have a new system in place that puts you in a queue for solo instanced duties. I've seen it myself while doing some quest line or other. It looks exactly like the queue for when you are trying to visit a different world, if you want to see it.
Here's a picture of the world visit thing, it looks exactly like this except it says "Place in Queue: 3" or whatever. Have anyone managed to get a screenshot of the actual instance queue UI?

Has anyone really said FF is dying though?
I mean the odd thread pops up here and there and we have the usual complaints, drama and feedback at any change they make, but it's looking flawless compared to WoW at the moment, which has walls of "game is dying" threads along with a sharply declining playerbase.
I think it's fairly clear the game is in a decent spot.
