Suspended for Otter Nonsense

Almost all of the otter pics were attached to text that was relevant to the dialogues at hand so I'm not sure if it would be counted as spam in that regard. I did browse through that thread a little while ago though and almost every otter post was removed. The OP may have reported those in question, but that's where I feel a moderator could step in with a warning like 'a report has been filed for X, please refrain from continuing with X or Y will be incurred.' A warning would do wonders to course correct most threads.

Also, I think there should be some kind of 'mute' feature like the YouTube comment section has where the OP can basically hide certain posts, though that would probably be abused regularly.

I haven't been around too long, but I do work for a company that has official forums as well as other social media outlets and main reason may be just sheer volume of posts make certain things difficult. Our agents who handle the forum also moderate our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter platforms which also includes replies to customers on them. Given how quickly those platforms move and how visible they are in comparison to forums, they'll often take priority over forums which only a (comparatively) small percentage of people will see/use.

If the moderators also have to prioritize first hand reports over secondary ones (someone reporting on behalf of someone else) all those could be reasons for responses/actions on the forum being the way they are. The mods are also people and they will have to make judgement calls on actions to take. Sometimes you have to pick your battles because I can be almost 100% confidant that they have to log actual bans in case a supervisor is doing any sort of review and ask why they did it.

First time I was banned because my forum sig here had the definition for "Final Fantasy Syndrome" that was coined by the director of FFXV, and it happened to involve the word "devs" in it. I was just told it was because of my sig and that they removed it from my profile.

Second time was because of harsher criticism of Square Enix that was a ToS violation, and the email for it had the exact quote from me in the forums.

Given my posts currently, my guess is that my third ban will probably have to do with joking about the Square Enix store being skeptical of us buying things from it. Whether or not it has specific references, I'm pretty sure I'll know what I got banned for.

I'll be honest and say I saw the title of that thread and just gave a big NOPE.. lol. If I post in a hotter water thread I try to create a bridge (too often I see people go in and be like "hah you no smart, me smash" <- not suggesting you guys did that, I did not read ANY of that thread), and if I'm not sure I can do that then I tend to just be like "I'm out" .

But certainly like if someone came into say my thread on companions and adding some points on what they think about that and then a cute otter picture- would absolutely NOT report lol. That said I might be like "what in the world are you guys doing?" if the text was vaguely related and the pictures became the new "point" of the thread.

I definitely believe that if they gave OP mute post power that it would be abused and as a result we'd see more threads so each person felt like they could control the conversation in the way best lol. Managing human speech is just a lose lose. No matter what you've gone and done something wrong .

Edit: OP as in generic OP not any one specific person, I don't think giving any OP the power to snap their fingers everywhere is good lol.

I think it had evolved (or devolved depending on your perspective) into if you wanted to post you had to pay the 'otter tax', meaning no matter what you contributed it had to be accompanied by an otter pic.

It was a beautiful time of unity the forums had never seen before, Casual and Hardcore players hand in hand enjoying otters together instead of arguing, people were coming together like never before, out of the malicious intent of the thread something good had come of it.

I agree. As much as I enjoy the otters I may have to redact my original invitaition to hijack this post.
