While I see you point and actually agree, just to be fair, if some Forum's moderating sytem is worse, it doesn't make the other moderating system better. It's still bad. Just somewhere it happened to be worse. It is same kind of logic as "our country lives bad, but children in Africa are hungry so we are actually okay".
It is my understanding that a lot of players prefer FFXIV’s subreddit as opposed to posting here because of the inconsistencies in moderation. I don’t post on Reddit that frequently myself, but I’ve read the occasional threads that appear there about the official forums, and a lot of posters tend to say they prefer Reddit over it. Which, unfortunately, doesn’t help with getting feedback to the developers because I don’t think they actively visit the subreddit.

Once I called a thread 'stupid' and I received a 3 day forum ban for it. Yup.

If you were posting just images or images and basically not text (stuff like /10char) then it was probably for spam. Also probably means someone, perhaps the OP, reported you for doing so (not just mods thinking "here's a ban for you, and you, and especially you" lol).
I guess with one of the larger post counts I have a harder time seeing everything as super inconsistent. Seems to me if you never call people names even if you think they deserve it (better yet attack ideas and not the people- while still avoiding insults), that includes name shaming someone (protect identities if you're going to discuss an issue of a particular person), don't data mine or discuss tools that read memory, avoid commandeering a thread even if you don't like the OP's thread concept (like if you're going to post a lot of pictures then reply with a picture that fits and add text that fits, don't make it an image blog/derail), if you have trouble detecting when things are getting heated then avoid long thread chains with someone opposite of yourself because they might feel it was way out of hand.
It's important not to underestimate the power of the person you're talking to, GMs take personal reports more seriously than reports made on the behalf of others, which I know frustrates some but I think it's better that way anyways because it avoids dogpile and some "twitter" outrage. In that later bit I think some people find there are "inconsistencies" but I believe the GMs give people a lot of wiggle room so long as people are happy with each other, once things start going south with reports then they pull out the rulebook and start smacking people with it.. perhaps a little bit too hard lol.
I think warnings would be pretty good change though, 10 days is a pretty hot slap on the wrist especially if you had 100% intention of adjusting once you knew what you did wrong. I can't imagine that leaving people with a very good feeling when they're eager to be compliant and learn what was wrong. Wonder if they can turn on message box in the forums and have some system that makes users read GM mail (that is a warning/punishment at least) before continuing on posting.

Oi, reading in that color is painful >< Is there a dark mode for the forums?
Anyway, I'm not concerned with other forums and their moderation. Like many others, I have been moderated (I won't talk about it here) and they are very vague as to the reason why. When you ask about it or defend yourself, they're like .. "Eh, that's nice, temp ban stands" and that's it.
There should be a set ruleset we all can see, and be able to fight against and repeal a ban. It makes me not want to post here much either. And yes I do report those posts who have things that are clearly against the rules of these forums, which are found here, and nope .. those posts and topics are still up there.
This was the best ban reason.
"Continually posts otter pictures starting at page 30 and stopping on page 51."
