Hairstyle Concerns for The New Races

Alright, so here's the full run down as of now (thank GOD they decided to ask about this. Tilted tf outta me that at the tour everyone asked basically the same job stuff)

"Q: Can we chose existing hair styles for Viera or Hrothgar?


Yoshida: We developed Hrothgar to be a “human beast”, so face patterns and hair styles are linked. I told the staff “You don’t need to implement common hair styles” and thats why we have our current design of the Hrothgar. We will be introducing more hair styles for Hrothgar, but those will be to strengthen the image or the roll playing of a “beast” so those will be only for Hrothgar. Please look at it as a race that is different from the existing ones from the base concept.

Q: That means there will be new face patterns as well…?

Yoshida: “We probably have to do that” so we are prepared, but I told our team that we will release 5.0 first so that will come at some time in the future *laugh*


Q: What about the Viera, will they have access to other hair styles?

Yoshida: Viera have a lot of unique hair styles as well. There will be some others you can use and some that you can’t. There will be more available, but it won’t be all. "


So Hrothgar gonna get more Hrothgar hair styles/ faces post release (still not known if you need a potion or if we can change faces with the aesthetician. He does say that they're a race different from the others from the base level so maybe they're given that freedom as a result of this set up.)

Viera will get some common hairs but not all.

YoshiP didn't need to tell us Hrothgar would be getting new hairstyles, if people wern't getting excited and jumping the gun, they could have considered that new Hairstyles would be added later. So this is just common sense to think that more options would be added.
People really need to calm down over this subject.

But that is a problem this locking of hair is a turnoff for players. People may rarely if ever change hairstyles but if they don't like any of the current ones on Hrothgar but they do like existing hairstyles in the game then that is one less potential fantasia for SE and one less Hrothgar player and that is bad for gauging return investment from implementing them. People are going to compare(they already are and did so before they were even announced) male hrothgar and female viera numbers and how they measure up to existing races, some people will even compare these stats with the hypothetical male viera and female hrothgar and this is just adding more fuel to fires about doing just 1 race.

Hrothgar deserved better than how things have been going for them and more and more limitations added onto them really is saddening, i feel sorry for any artist winner of the cloud hair who may have wanted to play Hrothgar, to the pvpers who like those hairstyles, the HoH/PotD, Alma/Ramza people, lightning/snow, Eureka, any other currently integrated hairstyle. Hairstyles are a good way to express yourself since its unlikely to come across a complete clone of yourself despite the limited faces on all races but with Hrothgar that is more likely to happen.

Like, I've always said that I think they would get "Hrothgar versions" of current unlock hairstyles because looking at their hair it's clear as day that it's not the same as normal hair. It's thick, simple, has no highlights and LOOKS like what a big beastly man would do. So IMO they were never gonna get 1:1 versions of other styles. That being said Im not happy with hearing they wont have "Hrothgar versions" of unlock hair at all ... but I do feel that new completely unique hair styles and new faces to come post release could make up for it provided they handle things well.

Like maybe we can change faces when we go to the Hair Guy to make up for this strange connection (Or at least the 2 options we have for hair for our face). Maybe because of the simple and bold look of Hrothgar's manes they can make them without much problem (Don't have to worry about highlights or making them fancy or detailed. They mainly look like big sections of hair pulled back into a wild style). Maybe these new hairs come with new heads or maybe all the faces get unique hair styles added to them or maybe they share all the new styles. Who knows.

As for twins, as a Femroe I can tell you every femroe I see has 1 of 2 faces. This is true for a decent amount of races actually (Like male Elezen ... big yikes at the lil boy and grandpa faces no one uses). But being a Femroe has shown me something ... and it's that---
1- When a character doesn't look like a normal person it pushes you to play with colors. There are no huge cat men in rl so you can do w/e you want with colors and patterns.
2- Glam, Hair color and skin color go a long way towards making you look different when you're around others who are also rocking the FOTM hair and have your face.
3- You don't play a big huge race to blend in with the crowd. I expect to see many unique Hrothgar out there given how many crazy cool ones I see on the Twitter contest.

Yes anything other than allowing that to happen without using a Fantasia would be needed to avoid a lot of negative feedback in my opinion. SE can't really expect people to pay to make those changes given changing hair is not an option and this would be an equivalent ability for this race.

As much as it'd be great, I'd advise not setting yourself up for disapoinment on this, specially since it's rather likely that instead of hairstyles, male hrotgars can change their fur patterns, not faces

I don't but I think it will happen. We'll see. I'm personally going to play one for fun. I don't really roll male characters but this one looks fun and I'll play it to start on a low level alt. I have many 70 level alts and two of those 9 at end game, maybe 3, will go Viera. I have them already made in the benchmark and need to make an alt to check out the height. Currently I have them set to low given I've seen pics of the height comparisons and I'm not sure i want to be max height which I generally set on all my characters.

My male Hrothgar is currently a snow leapard style and I'm happy with how it looks atm. I'm not terribly bothered by the lack of hair options given frankly I think they'd look pretty silly with many of the human based styles for other races and have no problem keeping them looking like the beast race there were designed to be.

Honestly I just hope those of you who want male hrot will enjoy it ^^ I personally couldn't care less about their customization since I won't play one, but I'm glad that the ppl who wants to play them will enjoy them as much as possible

I think people expect too much right out the gate that it limits the imagination by ignoring what you currently have. Have you seen the Hrothgars people have made so far? Pretty Impressive with the lack of options, I still see TONS of creative and unique Hroth's. And that creative ceiling will be expanded upon in time, just like all the hairstyles we have now; most of them have been added via patches. Same thing can and will happen for Hrothgar and Viera. Be patient and stay calm.

Expect too much ? I for one expect the basics, which it seems cannot be afforded.

As a developer this only leaves the impression of the team having planned for a product half done with promises of 'future updates' instead of delivering a product done. I appreciate what transparency they are allowing, but transparency in itself doesn't negate the lack of basic deliveries. I would rather have had a finished product in 5.x or 6.0 even. Presenting a design that's not afforded the basics for hype runs the risk of failure and dissatisfaction in the long run - especially if they don't come through with those 'future updates'.
