Hairstyle Concerns for The New Races

i feel you're trying more to convince yourself than you are me. i don't think people are going to be very happy when it turns out that they might have to use a fantasia to change the hairstyle on their hrothgar and that none of the hairstyles they've unlocked/purchased will be useable, either

I honestly don't give a damn. I've made my Hrothgar in the benchmark, I'm happy with his mane... and yeah. Heck, my Roegadyn is currently bald (but you can't tell because he's wearing a Behemoth mask, making hairstyles irrelevant).

So I noticed potentially alarming things about hairstyles on both races in the ShB benchmark character creator for viera and hrothgar.

Hrothgar:

Hairstyles are tied to face types. Not only does this mean that there is very little choice, does this mean we would need to use a fantasia to change hair?

I understand how hrothgar have a pretty different head shape so maybe some current hairstyles won't work...but did the given styles really need to be tied to face types?

Viera:

Hairstyles are not tied to face types and there is more choice than hrothgar, but still very little compared to the current races.

Viera's head shape isn't much different to any existing races so I'm puzzled by the hair style limitations. The ears would get in the way for some of the current ones, but most would be fine.

In the cases of both races, does this mean extra hairstyles, such as those from potd or mog station outfits, will be unusable?

We need clarification on all of this.

EDIT: I'd be okay with all of this if the intention is to open up more hairstyles as time passes. Creating new races takes a lot of time. I get it. But if the intention is to leave everything as is then I'll be intensely disappointed.

There it is. Confirmation that we're getting limited races, especially in the case of hrothgar. This is so disheartening.

I'm not too bent out of shape over this. I mean yeah it sucks a little bit but I'm so excited for what I will be getting that i can patiently wait for my fave hairstyle to be supported. I think thats kind of a trend on threads lately people are more concerned about not getting something than being excited or thankful over what they are getting. I dont know is this is an American only issue but it definitely is a trend. though I suppose my mind works differently because of all the things I never had and had to work towards.

Grinkdaboy has actively been against Hrothgar since their announcement. I really wouldn't waste time on him.

If they started adding "extra faces" for Hrothgar, I would guess that they might actually be the same faces with mane shapes switched around.

And I don't know how common it is either way, but personally I rarely-or-never change my characters' hairstyles - it's part of their design and it's a big thing for me to ever change that. So the "Fantasia to change your hairstyle" thing might not be a big deal for a lot of people anyway - especially since it's not really changing hairstyle, it's changing their entire face and essentially turning them into a different person (design-wise).

I think the worry over Hrothgar Hairstyles is kinda silly. Sure, we have limited options, but a creative mind can make it work, plus even if it wasn't announced right away, we should all know they would develop new Hairstyles in the Future. Give it time and give it a chance people, enjoy what you got now and not worry so much about what you don't have.

Sorry don't need to convince myself. I've got one ready to go. I'm very happy with the racial choices they made and I'm also fine with the hairstyle limitations for Hrothgar. Sorry you aren't but hey it's a done deal no male Viera for now... maybe one day.

they've already datamined and discovered placeholder slots for male viera and female hrothgar, it's just a matter of when my friend.

Oh its mainly an NA thing for people to just complain about anything just to complain.

Alright, so here's the full run down as of now (thank GOD they decided to ask about this. Tilted tf outta me that at the tour everyone asked basically the same job stuff)

"Q: Can we chose existing hair styles for Viera or Hrothgar?


Yoshida: We developed Hrothgar to be a “human beast”, so face patterns and hair styles are linked. I told the staff “You don’t need to implement common hair styles” and thats why we have our current design of the Hrothgar. We will be introducing more hair styles for Hrothgar, but those will be to strengthen the image or the roll playing of a “beast” so those will be only for Hrothgar. Please look at it as a race that is different from the existing ones from the base concept.

Q: That means there will be new face patterns as well…?

Yoshida: “We probably have to do that” so we are prepared, but I told our team that we will release 5.0 first so that will come at some time in the future *laugh*


Q: What about the Viera, will they have access to other hair styles?

Yoshida: Viera have a lot of unique hair styles as well. There will be some others you can use and some that you can’t. There will be more available, but it won’t be all. "


So Hrothgar gonna get more Hrothgar hair styles/ faces post release (still not known if you need a potion or if we can change faces with the aesthetician. He does say that they're a race different from the others from the base level so maybe they're given that freedom as a result of this set up.)

Viera will get some common hairs but not all.

While I'm glad he addressed Hroths getting new exclusive hairstyles in the future, I'm still worried if he means to add them in the roster regardless of face - like, all 4 faces sharing the new hair and count as heads 9-12, or only certain faces would get updated at a time. If the Show your Hrothgar thread is anything to go by, faces 3 and 4 ["face 2"] are by far the most popular choices, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the first face to get an update.

YoshiP didn't need to tell us Hrothgar would be getting new hairstyles, if people wern't getting excited and jumping the gun, they could have considered that new Hairstyles would be added later. So this is just common sense to think that more options would be added.
People really need to calm down over this subject.
