Kalise did a pretty good job of it.

did you play FFXI? Then you would know, to atleast the golden days where lvl cap 75 we healers, did - not - dps . We were standing in the back, using protect and shell, MAYBE casting a debuff on the mob and then it was standing around healing people. Even summoner and rdm was used to heal and spam haste and whatnnot, how do I know? I played FFXI for YEARS and mained whm and rdm. So comparing FFXIV to FFXI doesnt make any sense. FFXI is NOT FFXIV. FFXI was a lot harder, it took MONTHs to level up certain classes, if you even got an invite to a party.
And in 2+ weeks 5.0 will finally come out, I think after that we can complain about anything. Why start complaining already before we even had any experience? I remember how before 4.0 came out all the "whm is dead" talk and all the panic and hate that came along with it. Start a riot for once when its relevant and not BEFORE we have on-hand experience. You like ffxi? go play ffxi, you like wow, go play wow. FFXIV is FFXIV. Dont like it? Dont play it.
I've said it in other threads, but I didn't specify it in this one, so to clarify; yes, I did play WoW, from Classic through early Legion. And while Classic had options, most of them were high situational or useless. I should also point out that different talent specs in WoW are functionally different classes built on similar roots, like scholar and summoner in FFXIV. so saying that frost mage and fire mage are options is like saying that bard and machinist are options.
That is true but to be honest and this might be silly but I never like the idea of spamming Miasma II as a aoe attack it just never felt as satisfying casting something like Holy or Gravity when it comes to both animation and sound. Seeing a bright white light explode and hearing all the enemies get stun was great and hearing the noise gravity makes when hits is music to my ears. The sound of everything getting hit with Miasma II is pretty good but the animation is literally a fart cloud and I like the idea of art of war just... slamming the ground and getting a blue circle around you looks so cool.
To be honest I'm curious what's gonna become of SCH now.
They went from being a cool plague doctor with fairy sidekick to full on doctor fairy now in Shadowbringers, I'm curious if the job will feel as rewarding as it was in HW with its DPS utility.
I main WAR so I personally don't have a feeling towards it, but as my partner mains SCH I can tell she's all kinds of upset.
TIL I am a nobody.
I actually would prefer to be a full-time healer, well as close as one as possible. Unfortunately that is not the case in this game so I dps. Not everyone dpses because they want to, I'd bet a lot of us do it simply because we don't want to fall asleep while healing.
You needn't worry. According to Yoshida and the people who played the game at Media Tour, mobs will overall be doing a lot more damage than they do now. So Tank cooldowns and Healing will be far more necessary than they are right now.TIL I am a nobody.

Player
Yeah I am looking forward to it. I still have my doubts it will be *too* different since they want to accommodate various skill levels, but any increase in the necessity to heal is a step in the right direction.
Yeah, with how the way ilvl works, eventually we'll "outlevel" 80 content and it will be easier to do with less healing, but at least even when we outlevel it, it will still require more healing than older 70 content does now (which is almost none) by comparison.
And leveling dungeons will always require a lot of healing, which will be nice.
Two things
One, I love healing, and I love when my main job is to heal on my healers. I like having dps as an option, but it's not what I play healers to do. I play healers to heal, because I like healing and find it fun.
Naturally people don't like losing options, and I get why a lot of healers are upset. But to say that nobody likes just healing is... well, false.
Two, classes in classic wow were dreadful. That is all.
