Simplification is one thing, but complete removal of tools and limiting abilities in order to dumb down a role that is already singular in it's basic pathology is another.
Skill removal happens on every single expansion. Every DPS and Tank got some skills removed and got some new ones, just like Healers.

Healers can do DPS still, the only difference being that the DPs "rotation" got simplified, probably because now healers will need to heal more due to the combat changes.

Call me controversial, but I don't agree with either side of this entire Healer discussion.

    Healers must DPS!
    Stop telling healers to DPS!

The problem lies in the expectations and word usage.
Healers don't have to DPS. They can DPS if they want to.

Running dungeons, raids and trials should never boil down to being forced into using something specific.

A Healer doesn't wish to use DPS spells? Fine, let him. He's healing and keeping you alive, performing his primary task.
A Healer uses DPS spells, and your HP drops, but you don't die? Fine, let him. He's performing his primary task and helped you kill stuff faster.
A Healer uses DPS spells, and your HP drops to 0? That healer didn't do his job, assuming you weren't standing in avoidable damage.

This entire back and forth between people whether a healer should do additional DPS is moot.
The only point where all this micromanagement, optimization and mix-max pays off is in speedruns for Savage content.
Everything else is so trivial that those few seconds/minutes in a total run don't matter.
And if they do matter, you should be really re-evaluating your game's goals and priorities.

The reason is that there is no damage to heal and it's boring as heck. I've been at risk of actually falling asleep at my desk playing AST so I get why SCHs don't want that rotation if there is nothing to heal.

But I want there to be a need to heal. Like that "heal check" before the last boss of Orbonne that really only checks if healers are present in the party. I want that everywhere. Bring the poison rooms back and add some randomly targeted unavoidable damage to every encounter. The healing role can be so much more fun.

We don't just stand around idly. We carefully observe party hp levels always prepared to heal once we see anyone's hp drops by a milimeter xD

What? You're not pre-emptive healing to prevent drops?

Healer DPS, depends on the tank and the pull.

If the tank survives long enough to throw out some DPS, there is literally no reason to not at the very least throw out some DoTs (Aero / Bio & Miasma / Combust).

Isnt the correct way of "sticking/focusing on healing" is continuously precast cancelling cure spells so you'd have enough mp once the damage actually happens? ><

I DPS like a boss but I've also played enough FF games to know that a healer being more focused on that is just fine. I don't really care if they rework the kit to be more beneficial instead of offensive. The real issue is that it took them until 5.0 to do this.

Personally when I played white mage i /enjoyed/ stance dancing, it was fun to me getting the hang of it to where I could go from dps to healing and back at the drop of a hat.

But so absurdly many people complained about having to actually do stuff other than being a glorified heal bot that they changed it, and as a result I immediately got bored, and as a result I stopped playing white mage in spite of it having been one of my favorite jobs to that point and did in fact go dps because I like to keep busy in a party and in a fight, I don't particularly enjoy standing around with rotations that amount to

    "Heal"
    "Heal"
    "Heal.."
    "Heal..."
    "Heal...."
    "Heal....."
