You need look no further than the male elves forum avatars for an example of how unmanly males tend to look at this time.

Generally speaking elven characters depicted in a high fantasy setting tend to be on the effeminate side. I wouldn't expect someone wanting to play a manly-man type character to be looking to an elf as his avatar. That said, I would not be against the addition of a few more masculine options available to the elven males in 2.0.
