Tree in the middle of uldah killing graphics cards?

I was looking to find a thread on this I thought I saw a few weeks ago when the christmas event started but I can't seem to find it. Anyways, I just came back from vacation, and before I left I actually had a GTX 560 fry itself while I was playing the game a few days after I saw the first thread about someones video card dying because of what they thought was the snow. Anyways, I went out and got a new graphics card because both fans blew out of my other one and I am running around in uldah noticing that my card was back at like 70 C when it normally idles at about 50 while I am playing anywhere else, and that my GPU shoots from like 40% to about 70% anytime I get near the tree that is right in the middle of the city. I did some more testing and actually moved my camera through said tree and the GPU usage went all the way to 99% immediately and my graphics card was up to about 90 C 20 or so seconds later.

Is this happening to anyone else? And if it is is square even aware that its an issue?

I honestly think its your PC setup if its blowing up cards all day long. I have an ATI5770 that barely makes a noise during this christmas event, even my laptop with mobile graphics can handle the tree lol

If the game was in such a state that it was blowing up graphics cards, SE would have a serious issue, Crysis felt this wrath.

I don't think he's complaining about the tree being "there", I honestly don't think an extra model would affect performance. BUT I can confirm what happened to him; I have the same card as you (5770) and if I step *inside* the tree my card goes crazy. I would write a lot of technical mumbo jumbo but I have no idea on how graphics *really* work.

Very odd indeed, I've stood in it loads of times, both on my 5770 and laptop and not had this issue, the only issue i have is the constant loading character lag XD

Thats very possible, thats why I was making this thread to see if anyone else was having the issue. I honestly don't see how a computer setup could cause my gpu to shoot up to 99% at one particular spot and I can play any other game including this one at 50% max gpu usage regularly though. I was leaving my game on overnight alot and the place I always stand is right next to where the tree currently is. I never had any issues with this, and my older gpu stayed even cooler than the one I rushed out and bought at the last second. The whole leaving the game on could have been a contributing factor, but like I said, there was never any performance issues doing this and then once the christmas event started I started to get artifacting and then the graphics card finally died.

oddly enough it could be something with the tree itself, maybe it is causing some kind of proccessoing loop in the GPU.

I myself have an ATI Radeon HD 5850 and do not have this problem btw (could it be just Nvidia?)

just one of those anomalies in the game... I've noticed that happening when my camera is positioned in the tree.

If the card is not overclocked it technically will not fail due to maximum use unless the cooling system is bad. It will hang/slow or crash game. Are there front & back fans on that case?

The xmas trees are made from hundreds of layers of transparent textures. Depending on the blendmode and texture filter this can cause trouble for some cards/drivers. They should have made the trees hollow and not filled lol

This is your answer, the same effect but to a lower extent happens with the bushes in game or the trees in coerthas.
