    CNJ only had access to all elemental spells before Jobs were added (Fire, Ice and Lightning elemental spells were specifically removed from CNJ because Jobs were added - so as for CNJ to be a better fit for WHM, with the Fire, Ice and Lightning spells given to THM for BLM). There was no lore reason given at all for the change over - story wise it's as if those classes and Jobs had been that way all along.

    Personally I would have rather CNJ actually have kept the elemental spells (although tweaked slightly) and instead lost it's healing/buffing spells which would be given instead to a 'priest' type class that WHM would instead have hypothetically upgraded from, with CNJ instead upgrading to GEO (1.0 THM likewise losing it's Astral polarity spells and given to the same class, with THM turning into a proper elemental 'wizard' type class that would have meant a much more 'FF traditional' BLM).

    But alas...

    Maybe in another Shard perhaps...

    Nitpick: Fire, Thunder, Ice were given to Thaumaturges before jobs were released as part of the reworking of classes to give them more focused roles rather than the hodgepodge of skills they each had. Technically this change was in preparation for the eventual jobs, but it definitely happened about 3-4 months before jobs were a thing.
