GM Warning for 'Offensive Language', No actual reason given

It's why I do not talk to anyone on game.
I understand it's a MMO but people try to lure you in just to report you, its what happen to my cousin on these forums.

He posted same stuff everyone else was doing but because someone didn't like him from game came to the forums just to look into his chat history and reported him, he tried to ask GM's why was he being banned for topics in 2013 but was told nothing when it was 2016, 3 year topics.

he got told in post why he was banned but the stuff that he was being banned for was really what people say on forums right now, its why he didn't understand and asked why he was being banned for that stuff but of course he got nothing back.

now he just doesn't bother even talking to people he says the FFXI community was much better minus allahkazam forums lol

I myself think the perm ban on forums is way to harsh especially since you pay a subscription and the subscription ties to the forums, a year ban would of been the best thing then after a year if not better another year.

to those who don't think it ties to forums account you cannot sign into forums if they do not detect you log into the game for 14 days.

I personally got sent there once after messing with a DoL bot to see if I could break it somehow.

Unfortunately, I didn't forsee that its owner lived in the EU and thus was still monitoring it at a time of day where any normal US player would've been asleep...

I've read this whole thread and can see most people seem to agree that the offence should be mentioned in more specific detail. I'm certain there are ways a GM can say 'you used these words or this joke' without actively telling you who reported you and I can absolutely see the desire to protect the privacy of the person reporting you. However I also know under the new ToS I can literally get reported for having an opposite opinion to someone and ever since the new ToS were printed I've felt wrapped in bubble wrap unable to actively go and talk to people for fear of an account I've easily spent over £300 on being erased because I said something like "You know what I don't even like pizza." then when someone is like oh my goodness how can you not like pizza and I give an honest opinion... I've offended their nearly religious devotion to their favourite food. The ToS update has just been a mess leading to significantly LESS communication in a community that thrives on being generally pretty darn nice to one another.

I think though there is a fair and sane way to resolve these kinds of warnings. At the moment warnings are cumulative and if I got one 4 years ago and got one tomorrow it'd be escalated at 2 account warnings and I'd be moving myself towards a temporary suspension or ban or something. So why isn't there a 6 month timer on minor offences like this? Sure you get a warning for offensive language but it will expire from your account and not count in future after 6 months have passed during which you avoid any further reporting and have proven yourself sufficiently warned not to have repeated the offence. Surely that would be a sane way to handle this? But instead in this new scary world you now have to play the entire future of the game which hopefully will be 5+ more years with this hanging over you constantly.

See, the problem with this mentality, is that profanity is against the rules period. The filter is there as an extra layer of protection, not an excuse.

I love these one sided stories and they play the role of the victim, the fact is you did something bad you got collared by a GM for it. Claiming you have no idea what you did doesn't really fly as the GM would of gone through logs to confirm the report and no they not gonna tell you what was said to protect the identity of the person that put in the report as it would be pretty easy for you to figure it out.

Might want to work on your reading comprehension. He didn't say he disagreed or disputed the warning, but he honestly didn't know what triggered the administrative response, and thus just doesn't' feel inclined to chat at all because his account is at risk if he does since he doesn't know what he did that was wrong.

It's like being thrown in prison for "breaking federal law" without being told which law you broke and how. You don't know how to avoid the same situation in the future, and you start getting needlessly stressed because you're always looking over your shoulder. There's a reason most civilized countries make it a point to require courts to disclose the details of allegations against a person when they are made.

While you're technically correct, if the goal here is to make sure the behavior doesn't happen in the future, it usually helps to know exactly what happened so there is an understanding of what is and isn't acceptable. Your assumptions about "this guy"' and his intentions are irrelevant. As a matter of principle most countries make it a point to at least inform you of any allegations made against you legally so you can confront and clarify them. You would think a game company would do the same with mere verbal violations.
