Fun for the whole family!

The joy of showing kids a genre of gaming unlike any other in a setting that's constantly evolving in real-time far outweighs the risk of coming across the occasional (filtered!) swear word.

IMO, the kids at school are a much worse negative influence than the kids in MMOs.

And in FFXIV? What's the worst that could happen? They learn to swear? In Japanese, no less - pretty cool in my book!

Ahhh yes! Speaking of using an MMO to stay in touch! I had almost forgotten about that ^^. When my then boyfriend was sent to Iraq for over a year... FFXI was a big part of how we stayed in touch! I played a lot while he was gone just in case he could sneak a few minutes into the internet trailer and log on. Oh he could have emailed or texted.... but it seemed more personal to sit across from his character and talk. Gave you something to look at and interact with ^^. He says it also gave him comfort to know I was there waiting on him instead of out and about like some of his troops gf's. A lot of them returned to empty houses and long gone spouses and mates. ; ;....

I am happy to say that we were married within days of his return ^^ and still happily so!

I grew up playing Atari since I was 3...
My Grand mother, grand father (dead), uncle, mother, father, sister, brother, wife, son (4yr old) all play video games...

father... he wants to play Old Republic but he doesn't have anyone else to play with lol...

J/K lol I let him control my character riding chocobo and stuff he loves watching me play games in general comes up to me asking why I'm not playing game, or brings PS3 controller to me after he watched enough Curious George and others cartoons on netflix lol and goes "You can play now" lol

My 9 year old plays MMOs, just not 14, she actualy plays Champions and loves it to death.

I personaly dont see 14 as a "really young kid" friendly game as opposed to several of the lighter themed games out there(superheros are perfect for kids after all!)

Better this than CoD, Halo, and Read Dead Redemption. My brother who is ten plays all of these plus games that I myself would never play as result of the gore.

Aww lucky. The only family that plays video games is my brother... but we play completely different genres of games so it's mostly lonely riding for me. Though I did get him to play FFXIV very casually, so I guess I have someone to play with in my family ^.^

Haha, that was me growing up with my parents. Any time i was at a computer I was "playing" and wasting time. But there's so much more to it than those that don't know think there is. I just showed them where to buy pug hands and sent them off to put more sheep to sleep. I figure they level 3-4 jobs to 10, and I can collect about 1000 of each crystal from them, not to mention sheep skin and dodo skin.

And I just created a linkshell for them so they can talk to me whenever they want, and with each other, without being in a party, though they pretty much travel everywhere together.
