Aww lucky. The only family that plays video games is my brother... but we play completely different genres of games so it's mostly lonely riding for me. Though I did get him to play FFXIV very casually, so I guess I have someone to play with in my family ^.^

And I just created a linkshell for them so they can talk to me whenever they want, and with each other, without being in a party, though they pretty much travel everywhere together.

Haha, that was me growing up with my parents. Any time i was at a computer I was "playing" and wasting time. But there's so much more to it than those that don't know think there is. I just showed them where to buy pug hands and sent them off to put more sheep to sleep. I figure they level 3-4 jobs to 10, and I can collect about 1000 of each crystal from them, not to mention sheep skin and dodo skin.

It's so adorable you've got your daughters playing the game. Given time and patience, I think the economy in game would be a great tool to help teach them the value of items and money as well.

I think MMOs, even with all the rude people one encounters from time to time, is better than any school yard. When I was a child, by 2nd grade, I had already absorbed the popular curse words from other kids in school and as far as I can tell, nothing has changed as the type of language children are privy to is just as bad as the yesteryears it's just a slightly different set of slang. It's definitely better that children be exposed to real life with parental guidance than having them learn about it on their own.

This is so sweet I love hearing about families playing games together XD I don't have any kids (yet) but I still play often with my bf. And we'll most likely pass our fav family-friendly games down to our offspring.

On another note, I've noticed that kids seem to pick up gameplay/controls far more than many adults. Heck, I could pick up basic nintendo and gameboy games as a little kid and learn them without anyone telling me how, while my mom to this day, stares at a console controller like it's complicated alien technology XD

This just might explain why some people are having trouble getting certain friends, spouses etc. to play the game. Because it might be due to them not being experienced with games in general. A kid though? They have the potential to grasp anything quickly even if it has confusing UI and controls. (sorry for the babble)

Indeed, if your exposed to something at a earlier age, it is easy for you to comprehend it later on. Ex: My cousin would play FFVII when I was really young (1~2) then later (3~4) the game was not difficult at all for me. (Granted it took me awhile to learn that Cure heals my enemies and Heal cures status ailments but blah you get the point)

    True that!

It was the same for me and my cousins, we all played FF at a very young age just because one of their dad's happened to have some of the games. (we started at 8 though, not 7 XD). But we learned all the tips and tricks without any outside help

Really nice thread ^^ My husband and i play and have always been gamers, our 21 year old daughter doesn't play this but she did play a lot of Videogames growing up and it did her no harm infact she now has a degree in Videogame art! As long as children are happy and safe its all good, the world outside is far worse and at least you know they are safe.
