Many get tired of constantly beating down bosses and enjoy alternative choices, again, AS ADVERTISED. You should not have to jump servers to get what is promised, people are often very vested on theirs. It is not the customer's fault that the brilliant minds *rolls eyes* at SE did not see the writing on the wall. Simple visits to other games with housing components would of enabled acceptable housing for all. Now they need to fix the fail by introducing instanced housing, better late than never, to their customers.
It's not that the Japanese aren't housing enthusiasts. They really are. Some of the best designs in FFXIV housing constantly are coming from Japan. The difference is literally the server populations for most Japanese servers are so much lower than most of the NA/ EU servers. Most JP servers that I've visited have a decent amount of housing available in Goblet, often with multiple mediums open and occasionally a large (new character, started in Ul'dah, only done the quest to look at stuff from Ul'dah's aetheryte since Lav Beds requires lvl 10). It just means the Japanese fans aren't facing the same housing crisis we are. They're at the stage we were like 2-3 years ago, where Balmung, Gilgamesh, and a few other super large servers were the only ones with a huge housing crunch.

You can claim that people shouldn't have to jump servers to get housing, but I'd also argue that people shouldn't constantly make new characters on over populated servers. It's a double edged blade. If you want the heavy population, you need to realize that means you're going to have a rough time getting a house with the ward system currently in place.

Personally, I'd love to see wards kept as well as an instanced housing system put in. I'd love for every character created to be able to buy a house if they want (even characters on the same account) without it taking things away from anyone else. That's not what we have currently. Hopefully it's what we'll get soon.

This isn't fair to say. Aside from servers being locked or flagged as preferred, there is nothing to distinguish a highly populated server from a low populated server. And even those labels are far from specific. The game doesn't do a good job of telling you what the population states are. Sure someone can google a census but most players who think to do that tend to have played mmos before. Someone new to the genre is unlikely to think of it. Then of course there are people who want to play with friends. While world visiting makes this easier across servers, it doesn't solve the fc issue. You still need to be in the same server for that.

Personally I had no clue FFXIV even had housing when I started playing, so that certainly wasn't a factor in deciding where to create my character. I only knew legacy servers had super high populations so I avoided them because I didn't want to deal with long login queues, or just generally overcrowded areas. I chose Moogle because it allowed me to create a character (first attempt did not work on another server) and also because I like moogles.

Players shouldn't have to be very calculating about where they create a character just so they can engage in some content.

I'd like to see the ability to purchase 1 dwelling in each of the separate districts on each server. 4x houses per server is plenty unless they add a new district. Keep the wards? Fine, just make future districts instanced to allow housing for all. If they could make it so instanced housing could be expanded upon, pay and make the existing home bigger, it would be even sweeter and help with having to move around.
