Having played since 2.0 I don't really see the "change in direction" you're talking about. I feel far too many people just throw that phrase around without actually explaining what they mean. Could you elaborate? This is absolutely the case for me. Over the years there's been a slow change in a direction that makes me less and less happy with the game overall. This is a final straw of sorts, in that it has me seriously unsure if I even want to buy the new expansion. I probably will sometime in the future when it's dropped in price. Any earlier than that... maybe, it's still up in the air.
If people choose not to put their money into a game that's made a decision they don't agree with why does this matter to other players? That's what they should be doing if they actually want to make a point rather than simply complaining and continuing to monetarily support the game.
As much as I have no sympathy for those who make a big scene about quitting due to not getting exactly what you want (To the point of resorting to personal attacks), if you are unhappy with the game (or any product or service), then just quit. No reason to stick with something you no longer enjoy. Myself, I've pretty much given up on modern comics as I haven't like the direction one company has gone lately while another just FUBAR'ed one of my favorite character possibly beyond all repair. All I did was say my piece, mentioned why I was done, and moved on. Again, why commit anymore time to something that no longer makes you happy?
1st of all, I didnt say nothing about disrespecting anyone. I'm just saying if they want to leave or unsubscribe...then do so...dont need to sound the trumpets & make an announcement about it.
2nd - I know lore isnt the reason but Yoshi-P could have use lore reasons. Personally, I think he should have just said "NO MALE VIERA" @ the EU Fan Fest & called it a day.
I totally agree with your response Cidel. No, ultimately the issue was a group of people were continually convincing themselves they were getting male Viera and continued to hype themselves up and create their own expectations; even after (especially after) Viera were announced and not a male was in sight. Yoshida didn't lead people on, in fact, when asked about it in that same Fanfest he avoided saying anything that could "spoil" the Japanese Fanfest's reveals and simply directed players to reread the in-game lore (which pretty much says there are no male Viera running around in public as of yet). Yoshida didn't betray anyone's trust, the only betrayal was by some people's headcanon that got the better of them.
I just re-read that interview and seen no admittance on Yoshida's part that they "went about it in a way that caused more issues;" if you can find that statement, please direct me to it. In my opinion, I think you're conflating Yoshida's thoughts on announcing future job roles in advance to be "upfront" in what's coming in the next expansion.
I think you hit the nail on the headFrom what I’ve seen it mostly boils downs to people being dissatisfied with the game over the years and genderlocking was the final straw for them.
I love FFXIV for what it is, but even I have been less and less happy with the direction the game has taken. While I won’t unsub because of the genderlocking, I can certainly say that depending on what content gets added in 5.0, this might be the last expansion I’ll be buying.
Yoshida said they need to look into how they release information at fanfests in order to not lead into this issue. It may have been a different interview. You still miss the point though, the onus is on the person releasing information to control information and misinformation which they did not do. The fault for male viera and dancer healer both lie with SE and Yoshida and no one else.I just re-read that interview and seen no admittance on Yoshida's part that they "went about it in a way that caused more issues;" if you can find that statement, please direct me to it. Yeah, that's not how that works. Expecting Yoshida to go into damage control mode everytime the community over-hypes something is ridiculous and given the workload they have, the last thing we need is the community demanding that they look into and quell every hyped expectation.
People need to stop shifting the blame to the dev's and accept responsibility for their actions especially when the community is entirely responsible for this.
Idk why anyone would quit over a race or two when the game offers so much already in the bigger picture /shrug
roleplayers i guess? xD
This has nothing to do with damage control, their lack of proper information is what caused the issue to begin with. I feel you miss the point entirely? Yoshida has gone out of his way to explain himself many times and has done fine trying to explain afterward. It is their initial presentation which is the issue. Having a client facing job with hundreds and millions of dollars on the line people get fired immediately over miscommunication like this, it is entirely the party providing the service that is at fault. The client can't be at fault when they are given incomplete and incorrect information.Yeah, that's not how that works. Expecting Yoshida to go into damage control mode everytime the community over-hypes something is ridiculous and given the workload they have, the last thing we need is the community demanding that they look into and quell every hyped expectation.
