Needs to be asked.....on Male Viera

There are many threads discussing this topic I know, but Ive noticed that people are so upset about this that they say they will stop playing the game, and start talking about FFXIV's budget and say things like FFXIV's future looks bad.

Out of any and all other Reasons........why is it Over Not having a playable Male Option for the Viera?

I get that people are upset about not getting something they want, but why literally ragequit an entire game over it?

From what I’ve seen it mostly boils downs to people being dissatisfied with the game over the years and genderlocking was the final straw for them.
I love FFXIV for what it is, but even I have been less and less happy with the direction the game has taken. While I won’t unsub because of the genderlocking, I can certainly say that depending on what content gets added in 5.0, this might be the last expansion I’ll be buying.

I don't think most are serious about quitting the game over it. It's not like SE decided a genderlock from a design standpoint. It's a technical standpoint.

You know when a child threatens his/her parents that they are going to run away because they didn't get something they wanted, and then the parents say, "Good luck out there, be sure to write." then the kid gets a few blocks away before coming right back home? Pretty much the same thing.

Those who actually do quit were already on their way out anyway, which is fine because they brought nothing to the community.

Its people letting their emotions take over. If they are going to let this be the final straw for them chances are that they weren't that interested and invested in the game to begin with.


FFXIV is also not on any downward path, nor is this any indication of the game going in the wrong direction like people claim it is. Even if the people claiming to quit over no make viera actually do, they'll be back once they realize there isnt any other MMO on the market as well done and polished as FFXIV.


People like to claim the sky is falling whenever they are unhappy with anything the game does that they don't like. They are also in the extreme minority. The game will be fine.

I think some of them are prob very motivated by the idea of "equal representation" in media, plus being upset about the sexy girl/monster man thing being continued here. They're also impatient and impulsive, so rather than hear out the practical situation involved and understanding that sexy boys/monster girls is a bit of a gamble for not having a ton of precedent... they rage quit.

We do have a lot of sexy boys in FFXIV already so IMO the fanservice angle is mostly covered. It would just be nice if we could do the bunnies too. Not so much ability to make monster girls, but I figure patience and understanding are really really fair here. Monster-anything is kind of a gamble for FFXIV at this point given all the previous races have been super humanoid.

I don't think it's an unreasonable request for gender unlocking, but I do think "DO IT NOW OR ELSE WE'LL ALL LEAVE" is unreasonable.

From what I have seen it looks to fall into the spectrum of double standards and feeling under represented. Many LGBT ( not all ) people feel like the exclusion of male viera was an attack on a more fem male model or at the very least the fact that girls are allowed to be sexy but boys have to be a burly and manly. Along with comments about male bunnies being "weird" in a interview, the dev team feeling uncomfortable making the gold saucer bunny outfit for men and using "lore" as an excuse at fan fest but then immediately admitting it had more to do with time and variety. It helped push those feelings of being mislead and not valued as a demographic along. I am not going to quit but I can see why they may feel that way but Yoshi has stated the reasons and I truly believe he wanted to make everyone happy.

This is absolutely the case for me. Over the years there's been a slow change in a direction that makes me less and less happy with the game overall. This is a final straw of sorts, in that it has me seriously unsure if I even want to buy the new expansion. I probably will sometime in the future when it's dropped in price. Any earlier than that... maybe, it's still up in the air.

I myself reeeally want to play as a male Viera, and I think it makes ZERO sense to unsubscribe because they're not here for a variety of reasons. First of all, un subscribing means se gets less money, which equals to less chances of male Viera. Then, while it is important for me, the game is still very fun and I live my FC. Finally, I'm quite positive we will see them sometime being added, and I feel like ppl should be more patient.
As a side note, I would appreciate if ppl who don't want male Viera for whatever reason could be a bit more respectful towards those who want them (and the same for the other side ofc)
