It's all about art direction and coloring with WoW. It's got zones that are beautiful to look at with a crap ton of detail. But it's not so much the graphics as it is coloring and art direction.
Perhaps it requires an appreciation like XI does. That game is ancient, the graphics are obviously abysmal compared to modern games - but I absolutely love the art direction/world with that game. I'v personally never touched WoW as the style never appealed to me, but then I got sucked into WildStar whichiswas also more cartoony, but I loved the feel of the game all the same. Personal preferences are a weird thing.
I see some posts here that there are WoW players who dont wanna play because the game is too "weeb" and then I think about the ending of 2.5 and 3.5. And I think about some certain lewd or dark humor npc bubbles that you can visibly see around Limsa and Uldah and then I think... "Really...?"
