I am just referring to the fan fest exclusivity. Not overall exclusivity. XD I mean yes, the current fan fest minions were made available right away but they were first made avaiable to respective fan fest first like the others. Those other minions need to follow the same trend as these though and hurry to the mogstation. XD

We’re pleased to announce that the Fan Festival 2016 in Las Vegas live stream is now available for purchase! Experience all of the fun from the comfort of your own home and receive the exclusive in-game bonus items!
No, this is only talking about the Las Vegas stream which comes with one minion, but it says "exclusive in-game bonus items".

How your character looks has always played a role in showing off your characters power, style or specifically "where they've been" in order to even obtain that gear in the first place. Today these games have fleshed out transmog/glamour systems for easier appearance changing. Now times have changed, and the "oohs and ahhs" over someone's gear seemed to have shifted towards someone else's mount collection primarily because combat content is accessible to anyone who can make the minimum iLvl req. and thus the gear is so easily obtainable now there simply isn't much of a "Wow!" factor when you see someone completely decked out to the teeth in top-end gear. So that feeling has been replaced by drooling over some mount instead of gear - that's fine, that feeling is still there.

My point is that I feel as though making these exclusive items no-longer exclusive takes away from the whole point in the first place. If they wanted to get the bonuses in the game why couldn't they have made a different glamour or reuse a skin that's already non-exclusive, or add them to a Mogshop set that's already there.

At the end of the day what's stopping you from putting up the rest of the exclusive collection? Where's the Fat White Chocobo whistle? Where's the cloud mount? Hell, why don't you sell us the shoulder tattoo that only characters created pre-2.0 have? It's just glamour, right?

I've never come to the forums since I started playing in 2.x, but while this seems like a small "who cares" issue, honestly it is a huge yellow flag. Community, being involved and getting engaged is the core structure to every successful MMO and players like to get involved when they have identity, or a reputation on their server/FC/LS/WHATEVER. Keep taking away things players identify with and they will stop playing. Instead of releasing previously exclusive content to folks who weren't there when it happened and taking away our "old-player/senior" identity, maybe create new exclusives for the new players so they can find their own - with the Final Fantasy flagship being a near endless supply of ideas for nostalgic exclusives you could make. This is as if Blizzard started selling Scarab Lord title and mounts on their shop page (which they haven't, AND it's Actiblizzard so...). I feel like the downward slide of this fantastic game has begun...

But seriously, I want that back tattoo now just so that the pre-2.0 players can feel the sting, complain about it to Squeenix and maybe then they'll smarten up. XIV has been the best thing out of them since FFXII (IMO), and I'm watching it slip.

Pretty sure we've felt the sting more than anyone.

What did they take from you that was exclusive to pre2.0? Honest question, I thought it was only the tattoo?

Can I just remind you of these: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes.../78ede6ab44c/? (For anyone not wanting to hit the link: White Ravens)

I didnt play 1.0, so I cant speak from my own experience here, but its my understanding that those were even earned in 1.x through beating Nael. And back then players were encouraged to go and get them because it would be there last chance. Turns out... a few years later everyone was able to just buy them after beating an instance where the biggest challenge was to enter.

I can understand people being upset about the White Ravens.
I cant understand people being upset about the fanfest-outfits, where all you had to do was cough up some dollars.
Yes, glamour and looks are an important part to a lot of people - but someone else wearing items that you did nothing for but pay some money doesnt devalue them to you, does it? (If the answer is yes, thats pretty... weird to me)

...and btw: the mainpoint of items being exclusive isnt that you can feel special (again... in my opinion you dont get to feel special for paying real money for something anyways). Its to drive sales. Its an incentive to get you to pay for it NOW because you wont be able to get it anymore tomorrow and who knows, maybe you want to have it next week! Its probably a bit of a questionable marketing-strategy and I get when people call it "lying", but the idea is to give you an incentive to buy NOW.

Exclusive items should stay exclusive. The term exclusive has a specific meaning and sets a finality on the noun it is modifying. When used as a marketing term for an item or service it is designed to instill a sense of fear, fear of missing out. The consumer is told, this thing will never be available to you again. If you want it, you have to buy it here and now.

If you missed out, too bad. If you really wanted that item but couldn't afford it, too bad. People purchased that item with the expectation that it will be their only chance. This is at best false advertisement or misrepresentation, and at the worst it is downright fraud. If you want to sell items bundled with something else, and then maybe sell them again at a later date, do not call them "exclusive". Be truthful to your customers and they will respect you. Lie to them and they will start losing respect for you and lose faith in what you are telling them.

I'll end this post saying, I didn't buy the stream, i will not be buying the clothes from the mog station either. They aren't something that I like. I wanted to present an argument that wasn't colored by any sort of emotional bias.

You purchased the stream, not the items. I purchased the stream and Odin statue. If they were to make the items that comes with them available through other means, I wouldn't care since I got it for free and other people will pay for it.

what's the harm? how does buying cosmetic items devalue the experience of watching the stream?
