They weren't even going to do Viera at all, as stated in a number of interviews, it was only late into development and after they settled on Hrothgar that they decided to do female Viera.
I'd rather have had female Hrothgar over female Viera.

I want to play as male viera, but I think they should have gone full hrotgar. I'd rather have a full race that adds lots to the game than two unfinished races that you can't even choose their genders from to begin with. I hope we will see female hrotgar and male viera added in the future ^^
I would have personally preferred one full race. I wouldn't have cared much if it was viera or hrothgar, either way fine with me.
Another thought, what if they had just made male viera beastly. They never appeared they could do w/e with them, they already have male viera living in isolation them being more beastly could factor into that isolation.
I'm down with the Hrothgar now that the decision has been made.
As much as I've wanted the Viera, and despite the fact I will still fantasia to one, the models they've been showing have looked a wee bit bland to me (especially that PLD). This could just be a styling prefernce (I DID really like that Dancer Viera..), so we'll see when the benchmark comes out
The Hrothgar are bringing something completely new to the game as far as race design goes, and I think that's pretty spiffy :X.

Count me down as someone who thinks they should've implemented both male and female hrothgar rather than viera, even though viera is my preferred aesthetic and I'll likely never switch to a hrothgar even on an alt. The hrothgar bring a completely new aesthetic to the table - but the way they've done it, you can only go beastly if you want to play a dude.
I'm hoping part of the reason for the decision was because introducing one full race would've meant closing the door on the other, and this way they get both of them in the game and leave a foothold for adding the other genders if time/resources/finances allow - whereas if they'd chosen just one it might've been next to impossible to get the other later.
I'm going to say both, but if it came down to only picking one full race I'd have to say Hrothgar (even though I love Viera). Hrothgar is so much different than any other current race and is going to add something new instead of more of the same. I feel like we will get the other halves of both races in due time and am glad for what we are getting. Male Viera would be cool because "yay more pretty boys" but Hrothgar fills a space in the races that we haven't seen yet and I'm very excited it is coming. I do wish the bodies were more similar to the Ronso from X and less Conan the Barbarian, but it is what it is.
Makes me happy that hrothgar are in the lead currently.
Glad people can see that this is a race that this game desperately needs. Viera offer nothing unique at all and are just a reskin of what every race besides Hrothgar already are-a human with one weird thing about them.
I think that honestly they should have gone female hrotgar over female viera, and then perhaps added a full viera race in maybe 6.0Makes me happy that hrothgar are in the lead currently.

I picked lioness out of personal preference, not because I believe its what the game "needs". I would have been fine with either with both genders than one gender 2 races if Im going for what I thought what would be better for everyone.
